Hi guys I’m trying to tune my 30 cal Panthera 700 to some heavier slugs but i can’t get them to fly any faster than 942 fps.

The gun came from Utah Airguns tuned for 44.5 grain hybrid slugs at 950 fps. 110 bar 3.0 hammer spring tension

According to “The Ultimate Airgun Tuning guide” on YouTube airgun slugs stabilize at around 950 to 1050 fps.

I tried tuning with 65 grain Griffen Slugs and at 110 bar they were way too slow.. so I gradually increased reg pressure up to 131 bar and the fastest I could get them to fly was 942 FPS. Increasing to 140 or 150 bar caused the speed to decrease. So I thought increasing reg pressure should increase the speed? Why Is that not happening? Is there something wrong with my gun? And yes I tried high, low and medium settings on the hammer spring tension but 942 fps was the most speed I could achieve. I’ve also since tried to tune with 70 grain eviscerator slugs with similar results.

I’m new at this and have a lot to learn. Thanks

If you haven’t increased the hammer settings the increased reg/plenum pressure will close the valve faster and hence slow the velocity.
Warning, with the Panthera and other Dynamic block guns increase your hammer in very small increments. Use the micro adjuster and go two maybe three clicks at a time until you get close to your target speed. Then 1 click at a time.

I am in no way very experienced, but it sounds like your hammer is not heavy enough or your hammer spring is not strong enough to open the valve fully at the higher reg pressures. I’m sure someone familiar to the platform will chime in and let you know what hammer/spring combo to run for your desired outcome. Good luck.

I have increased hammer spring tension. Actually at the max speed I was able to get to the hammer spring tension was maxed out.

Why the warning on the small increments?

Thanks

Hi,

Check out the factory specs on the .30 cal 700 cm Panthera. FX advertises the MVs you desire with 65-70 grain slugs only when the rifle is equipped with a tungsten hammer.

The warning is for your final fine tune. The valve on the Dynamic block is larger than any other FX gun. So changes in hammer spring strike make bigger differences than in most other guns. It is easier to adjust right past your sweet spot.
There is no physical hazard. It just took me a while to learn to go in small increments. In fact another member here had mentioned it and I tried going in small increments. It worked.
