No, F&F does not provide any protections to the buyer.

If I have any questions about the purchase, I will always use 'Goods & Services' and pay the additional fee.

It also serves one well to only have a credit card as the funding source of your PayPal account. PP doesn't seem to like to help out a buyer who has been burned - they make it seem like it is a waste of their time.

But if you used your credit card to do the PayPal purchase, just mention that you will have the CC company reverse the charges and PP seems to spring right into action to help you out.

At least that is how it has been for me. YMMV

I second all above and add if you use FF too much I believe they cut you off, although that may be for the seller.

On a related note, I've noticed that on the airgun classified ads here and on GTA most all the sellers seem to say FF or add %. Why not just add the % into the price you ask, shipping also for that matter? I've bought and sold a good bit of nice camera gear on a big camera forum and that's the way most all do it. It's so much easier.

The reason is it is a sales tactic similar to what the stores do. I have listed many , many items with the combined price and had no sniffs. switched it to price F&F or add fees and the inquiries start coming. generally items have a set price with shipping included or split. so I "do as the natives do" .

also - it has been mentioned some where here on forum that paypal may choose not to cover airguns , I can't swear to that.

I quite enjoy occasional posts of woe and confusion on the part of buyers or sellers with no recourse because of 3%. I suspect some would/will still take the risk even after they know these things... for 3%!

I have always felt the same. If 3% is a make you or break you number on what you’re buying, maybe you’re spending beyond your means or the seller just wants too much to begin with.

Ranger is dead on with what he said up above. I have heard on more than one occasion of an issue with an air gun and Pay Pal wouldn’t cover the loss. They consider air rifles to fall under the firearms category. Yes, I know that’s a bunch of crap but Pay Pal is an anti gun community and they make their own rules for their company. I’m not saying the policy is absolute either, I don’t know. I can only speak to the two times I heard of it happening when the air guns were not covered.

I have made an expensive air gun purchase in the past and to make sure we were covered, the seller and I listed a $2000 scope in the description of goods section, rather than an air gun. That way, if there was a problem it would be covered.

I just wanted you to be aware, just because you pay the 3% for an air gun purchase using Pay Pal does not mean you’re covered. I know Pay Pal is the preferred method of payment because it easy and immediate but there are other options if you’re concerned.

If you’re buying on here, first check the scammer list, then search the seller/member themselves, and the email address if they provide you one. PayPal WAS my go to since I live outside of the contiguous USA. Now I only use it to buy stuff. PayPal will always rule in favor of the buyer. The buyer does NOT need to have a legitimate reason to return the item. “Not happy with purchase” is all that is needed. With that being said I have made many purchases using F&F. Of course these purchases have been with established members with positive feedback. Do your due diligence prior to committing.

I cancelled my Paypal account long ago due to their discrimination against people in the shooting sports. First, I would research the person's history that's selling something then find an alternate way of making payment. If you use a USPS MO and get scammed, then the person is subject to mail fraud, a felony.

This isn't about the purchaser, its about seller's protection. I have an air gun I'd like to sell but I have heard horror story's of buyers canceling payment after receiving tracking #s. This can happen even with bank checks and Pay Pal will do nothing if any kind of gun is involved, air or otherwise. Obviously scams can go both ways.

If your personal ethics mean anything to you? F&F is for gifting! Anything else, it's stealing!

No there is no protection because it not intended for buying. As I stated it is for gifting, and gifts are non refundable.

It always boggles my mind how some cheapskates, (thieves), are willing to screw the safest method of making any purchase over such a minimal cost. PP is more secure online than using a credit card FOR BOTH PARTIES! OR PMO.

Please folks, don't abuse such a convenient and secure way of making purchases from strangers. It is less than 3%, that is less than 1/2 the cost most pay for the sales tax your saving. But the main thing is don't screw the people that are providing you the most security online making purchases, at such a minute cost. If you do, it makes you a liar and a thief.

Today so many confuse it's not ileagal, with what they would do in the presence of God, and ignore the fact that they ARE doing it, in the presence of God!

I was looking to see if pay pal accepts air guns and the only answer I could find was (no they do not deal with fire arms or ammo). I realize airguns arent fire arms but do they realize this?
If you’re hoping they will apply that rule in a thoughtful consistent way you’re hoping for too much. PayPal will generally screw the seller and close the case. Distinctions like the difference between a firearm and airgun and likely to be ignored.
