OK -- tax time - taxes done / refund on it's way - new toy time. ;-) I've only been doing this for a couple of years though and am not as well versed as many of you. ( translation - some of you have been doing this for a long time I gather and have been around the block so-to-speak - been there, seen that, done that )
I have an Air Arms S510 (22) - I bought it partly due to the fact that they've been around forever and (speculatively) will still be around for at least another 5-10 years or more. They're also widely regarded as being a very nice rifle.
Obviously Daystate has been around since the dawn of time. FX - not really sure how long they've been in existence but one would have to believe that they've become such a huge player and innovator that they will be around for years to come.
I'm really intrigued with the new RTI Prophet that's coming out. I don't know how long RTI has been in existence for though. (actually there are LOTS of guns I'm intrigued by - lol!) I kinda dig that new Zbroia Sapsan too - the general consensus is that it's over priced. Same thing on the company - how long have they been around for - they going to be around 5-10 years down the road?
With any of the mfg's - questions re: will they still be here 5-10 yrs out is will I (we) be able to get parts and/or service if required? Obviously none of us knows if a company will (definitively) be around 5-10 yrs out but . . . we can speculate I suppose. (?)
I'd like something that you can change calibers (barrels) with - the FX's are an obvious choice. The Sapsan and Prophet both also support caliber / barrel change.
The Taipan's have an almost cult like following - they been around for a while? I don't think you can (easily - if at all?) change calibers on them though? The new XR series Brococks look really nice - I'm pretty sure that sort of like AA and Daystate that they've been around for a while too?
You guys who've been around the block for a while -- go. If you were to recommend a $1500-$2000 price ranged airgun to someone new to the sport - who would you recommend that you would feel good about, being pretty sure that this new person will be really happy with the gun AND the maker of said gun will (hopefully) still be around for at least 5 years down the road?
