PCP Manufacturers - who's been around for a while?

OK -- tax time - taxes done / refund on it's way - new toy time. ;-) I've only been doing this for a couple of years though and am not as well versed as many of you. ( translation - some of you have been doing this for a long time I gather and have been around the block so-to-speak - been there, seen that, done that )

I have an Air Arms S510 (22) - I bought it partly due to the fact that they've been around forever and (speculatively) will still be around for at least another 5-10 years or more. They're also widely regarded as being a very nice rifle.

Obviously Daystate has been around since the dawn of time. FX - not really sure how long they've been in existence but one would have to believe that they've become such a huge player and innovator that they will be around for years to come.

I'm really intrigued with the new RTI Prophet that's coming out. I don't know how long RTI has been in existence for though. (actually there are LOTS of guns I'm intrigued by - lol!) I kinda dig that new Zbroia Sapsan too - the general consensus is that it's over priced. Same thing on the company - how long have they been around for - they going to be around 5-10 years down the road?

With any of the mfg's - questions re: will they still be here 5-10 yrs out is will I (we) be able to get parts and/or service if required? Obviously none of us knows if a company will (definitively) be around 5-10 yrs out but . . . we can speculate I suppose. (?)

I'd like something that you can change calibers (barrels) with - the FX's are an obvious choice. The Sapsan and Prophet both also support caliber / barrel change.

The Taipan's have an almost cult like following - they been around for a while? I don't think you can (easily - if at all?) change calibers on them though? The new XR series Brococks look really nice - I'm pretty sure that sort of like AA and Daystate that they've been around for a while too?

You guys who've been around the block for a while -- go. If you were to recommend a $1500-$2000 price ranged airgun to someone new to the sport - who would you recommend that you would feel good about, being pretty sure that this new person will be really happy with the gun AND the maker of said gun will (hopefully) still be around for at least 5 years down the road?

My first pcp was an fx ,I liked it so much I now own 3. All 3 are lasers but if I could only keep 1 it would be my Impact.

I think you just got to look around and check everything out, The best air gun for me may not be the best for you.. I know there are a lot of people out there that scream FX Impact but for me I do not want the most complex air gun made with 47 O rings..

ME, I want simple, RTI PROPHET fits the bill for me, Simple and only seven orings ,

Mike

I would not place much belief in companies being around in X amount of years based on the fact that they have been around for x amount, complacency can set in, also as we are on the cusp of a world recession (covid19), any company that has recently spent big on R&D ect, ( Daystate?) need to get that money back before people stop spending.

Prophet,

Sapsan,

and the 2020 .25 K1 on my list, should come the summer, I am still in a job.

I hear what your saying. When I was looking for my first pcp I wanted something I could get parts and service for if need be. I really liked the Brocock Contour so I researched the company and thought they'd be here awhile. Soon after purchasing it they discontinued them and Daystate bought them out. Now, 5 years later I haven't a need for parts, but find they are still available from the U.K.

Last year I was looking for a compact left handed .177. Asking for advice, I was steered to the Uragan Compact. Putting $1500 down for a gun that was relatively new was unnerving. I went with the (also new) HW100BP-K. My thought was Weihrauch has been around for a long time and took a long time to enter the bullpup scene, so hopefully they used that time to get the engineering correct. I am very pleased with it so far.

Thanks to all of you who have replied so far.

FX - yeah - most definitely tempting. Are they nice? Apparently! Are they way overkill and complicated? I suppose that depends on who you ask. ( I think they are myself - 40+ ORings - just way to many potential points of failure )

@harry -- hopefully we'll all still be working to buy new toys. :)

Decisions, decisions . . . ( I do like that prophet though ... :) ) We'll see what I wind up with.
