PCP or springer for SHTF ???

of course but those aren’t one of the options listed

In many movie Senarios … ammo becomes scarce …. I suppose pellets would as well but consider how big a 500 count of .177 pellets vs even say 100 rounds of cartridges

It’s interesting to postulate the “what ifs “…..
Easy to rob batteries from all the dead cars and such to cast pellets.
Not to mention what one can do with all that old battery acid!

Respectfully disagree on the guns are over rated portion of the argument. It’s true that you can’t eat bullets, but you also can’t eat that which someone who does have a gun takes away from you. Over rated in the context of living in a civilized society, most definitely yes! But in a SHTF scenario I’d rather have more than one and a few good friends with them too.

PS. It’s hard to keep a PCP filled with no power or fuel and a generator could be better used for lighting and power tools if necessary…
Be clear, I'm talking about those folks who have 20 guns and no stockpile of water, means to purify water, nor a non-perishable food supply.
They aren't prepared, they're into guns and using prepping as an excuse for their GAS (Gear Aquisition Syndrome)...

If you don't have a few good PB and airguns, you are also not prepared, IMO - but, I stand by my statement that they're overrated. Plenty of ways to defend a property, and even go on offense, without a firearm - and I've seen a lot of cases where folks stop considering their options and just default to "I will solve this with high velocity lead!" as their go-to option when discussing these things. :)

For Home defense? The SMG .22 belt fed fully automatic with a Micro-bore hose hooked to a HPA tank!
At around 830 FPS? Those 100 rounds will stop anyone at Home ranges! I had 2 so Yeah. I know what they could do!
You could shoot through drywall and cause massive damage! How do I know that?
Took a squirrel out of my attic with a 100 rounds through the ceiling! SWMBO was not amused!
Dude.

That's the best thing I've read in ages. ROFL

Long term hunker down scenario,......... PCP for sure, with a Handpump they can be maintained forever.....power, silence, accuracy, variable power for different needs, cast ammo for it, can cover a big spectrum of the survival necessities,.....I would pick a .30

Short term, ..............neither I take my Marlin 60 with as much ammo as I can carry.

Interesting academic discussion. But I expect, in a true SHTF scenario, our choice of weapons might be way down the list of priorities. Also, I think a good many of the survivalist types, might end up blowing off their foot, or sending their spouse to the promised land. A lot of that happened during WW II, in some of the European towns and villages. Things seldom go as planned. I like the quote, "every plan is a good one, until the first shot is fired"!

People always ask about guns/ammo for SHTF but have no contingency for water, fuel, currency, food, medical/first aid training, medications, etc.

I'm gonna need some way to defend my fat bag of 90% Roosevelt dimes not to mention pallets of Southern Comfort nips and Bic lighters.

In a world of limited and, at best, asymmetrical preparation, the man with extra o-rings is king!

I would say neither in a true SHTF situation. But if I had no other option than to choose between the two? I would have to choose a good spring gun. For same reasons as others have mentioned. Easy to work on, easy to repair, no external air source necessary. Rifle, shooter and pellets is all that is needed and it is very capable of putting food on the table for you.
