Peacock Coop Ratting

My buddy has a coop with some peacocks a couple guineas and a a half dozen chickens. He had mentioned the rats had moved in and Saturday I ran into him and I said my rifle was ready. He said I could shoot em any time I wanted as long as it was soon. My new to me Leshiy classic .25 got first blood tonight two very fat rats. I should of had more but with the rifle zeroed at 25 yards my hold over wasn’t nearly enough on the first few. My first pesting permission a success!

Nice shooting.

Is that the Wraith 2-16?

And the eye relief is comfortable with the eye cup even with the hinge point?

Yes it is the Wraith 2-16.

Comfortable at that position? I would say not quite. Definitely useable however. I have to put a little more pressure into my shoulder than I want and lean into the eyepiece to get the full screen in my vision. If the stock was 3/4 to 1/2 an inch shorter it would be more ideal but you would reduce an already small reservoir. I may figure a picatinny extension in the future but it works good enough that I'm not in a rush to change it.

I like the Wraith. The one shot zero works very well imo. The night time view was good. It is very simple to use and adjust. The ability to log many different zeros on call was also an important feature i wanted because i’m going to be running a .177 barrel as well. Probably will occasionally go on powder burners too.

@bandhunter I like the setup. However, couldn't you put an elevated picatinny rail extension to bring the scope backwards so you don't have to lean into it so much, it should save your shoulder some.

Also, is that the stock grip? And how high do you have your 25 cal setup cranked too, FPE?

Yeah i could and i probably will but i like the flush look and i like being able to slap the hinge open without having to worry about any potential obstruction. The balance feels right too.

This is my first pcp. I don’t own a chrono so I don’t know my fpe. The member i purchased it from said the regulator is factory, not sure if it is still factory setting though. I’m shooting FX 25.4 grain pellets. I have the hammer spring adjusted to 8 counter clockwise clicks from zero.
I can tell you these two rats were DRT. Couple tail twitches but thats it.

I’m working on getting all my stuff together to be able to properly tune but its working great currently. I haven’t done any efficiency testing. Haven’t shot enough in one sitting to get pressure low enough to be off the reg. I rarely have time to shoot more than a dozen shots in a sitting between work and two children under 2.

Yes it is the stock grip, it says Edgun with his dog symbol on it.

Clockwise as if you're looking at the HST adjuster or clockwise when you have the HST pointing away from you?

I miss typed. 8 clicks counter clockwise from zero if looking at HST adjuster.

Okay. My best guess is that your HST is well below the sweet spot of ~95% to 97% of the first velocity peak.

Not necessarily a problem and in fact it will probably be quieter. But your first shot or two may be a bit slow and shots coming off the regulator may spike.

My Leshiy was the same way until I got a chronograph.

Thank you for the feedback on the Wraith. I like that it goes down to 2x and is reasonably affordable but the eye relief concerns me.

UPDATE:

Landowner contacted me yesterday and asked if I’d be willing to come back out last night. He said he wanted to come out with me and show me the extent of the infestation.

He showed me holes around the coop i hadn’t seen and more going out towards his brooding pens. He also showed me some of their more frequent above ground “highways”. We had a few tunnels sink in and collapse as we walked. I was pretty shocked. He said he had put out tons of poison to no avail.

i was able to get 7 more last night as we made our rounds.😁 Pesting gold mine.

The rats were not quite as large as the pics above but four were about the same and one fairly smaller. I got vids of several shots but no pics.

Also @Scouty you were right. My first few shots seemed weak last night and after a few ramped up. I need a chrono. But as to the Wraith eye relief. Its really growing on me and i’m feeling more comfortable with the way I’m shooting with it. I had a little more relief than i thought as i became accustomed to the eye box.
