Pellet or slugs probe - for slugs

I spent a good amount of time with probes. Building hollow probes on guns with pin probes and pins for hollow probe guns. I could say it was waisted time but I had to do it to learn a couple things. I now just use what comes with the gun. Blueprint a hollow probe, focus on seating depth with a pin probe because they are awful with anything that isn’t a flat base. And if I want a probe that is a game changer, retractable.

Anybody knows a revolutionary new design on pellet probes repurposed for shooting slugs?
Just asking :) have too much time on my plate, winter is here in Canada....
I've never had an issue with pellet probe on my guns and shooting slugs. used both on Dreamline and DRS, just went back to the High Flow Pellet probes.

@Vetmx didn't want to resurrect an ancient post, But, did your issues (and many others) ever get worked out with the Krait regulators?

I finally parted ways with the gun. The only gun I ever sent back in my life. Reg issues are one thing. But when a $1,500 .25 can’t make modern day power, I don’t want it. My gun may have had an underlying valve issue but UA seemed OK with the numbers it was spitting out. I wasn’t so we worked something out.

Very glad I saw that post. I had recently agreed for a trade.. MY Uragan 2 king in 25 for a krait long. I decided not to based on not just your but many people on that threads similar experiences.

Any gun with that tag, a plenum that large should be able to put out higher energy than basic pellet velocities.

I'm currently stuck indecisive between a p3 and a kalbrgun cricket 60

I can see advantage in using (FX in my case) hollow pellet probes for both pellets and slugs. But I have not shoot slugs with these long enough back in time to make a firm statement.
I remember about a year + ago there was a (FX Impact) project about making a mechanism to retract the full body probe, but the price tag most likely killed that project and I never hear anything about the performance.
Planning now my Impact MK2 for the next season, replacing the .25 cal liners to .22 and wanna shoot 100 M rings. I know very well not much to expect from MRD's so started shopping around for .22 slugs in bricks. I have not seen in Canada any dealer selling in larger bulk.

Huma sells them cheap. USD $6-7 for 200ct H&N slugs. Which shoot best though my fx, liners. However in .22 griffin slugs shoot incredible, but at 20-25 per 200ct it's not cheap. Huma costs me 40 In shipping, just buy enough to minimize the impact. Saving 50% on ammo helps negate the shipping.

All three of my Impacts have retractable probes. But with the one I went back to a cleaned up factory probe in the L-tech chassis. There was a big balancing act taking place that would involve too much typing. Putting it simply, the boost in power from the retractable probe was forcing me to run a lower reg pressure that was causing a snowball effect. But this is with slugs. If you’re shooting pellets with plenty of barrel length out of a powerhouse gun, the only probe concern you need is one that guides and seats that long pellet squarely.

I wouldn’t buy slugs in bricks until you find one that performs out of your gun the exact same every day for a month.

Big picture, I think .22 Krait guys are and were happier than me, the lone .25 guy. But another member here contacted me a while back and said his Krait .25 was spitting out competitive velocity per reg setting like modern guns. I don’t know if a LAK could match your U2 in the power department but if you’re only shooting pellets, who cares. Curiosity has me at times wanting to try another one because there were some impressive things about it. But we also know what curiosity does to cats. I also don’t need another “regular“ 25 or 22.

I personally didn't like the feel of the Uragan king. I'm leaning strong in the prophet direction. I'm a fan of .25 and I want a reliable Powerhouse. I've yet to see anyone speak I'll of RTI. If I'm spending that kind of money, I expect to be thrilled. I understand the move.

I have a P2 .25 with 500 and 600mm barrels. The 600 with 33.95 and even lighter pellets, impressive. Slugs? Not so much. But I found a couple that were adequate. But I have two other dedicated .25 sluggers so I didn’t go above and beyond testing. Just depends on your standards. The 500mm RPB has a smaller speed window and is basically more picky. But my gun is currently set up as a sorta compact with the 500mm shooting 27gr pellets pretty impressive.

Sorry @bigHUN , I’ll shut up about off topic stuff.

bigHUN,

If the 25grainn MRDs aren't working for you you might want to try some of the other 20+ grain JSBs that are now available at AGS.

I picked up a variety of them to try when the snow melts. In the mean time, it's indoor shooting season.

Cheers!

I have the L-tech in .22. If you're in the market PM me.

Hey Vana2
The MRD's works very well for 50 M rings, but nothing special for 70 M and for 100 M is a disaster in my eyes.

My last attempt to test the MRD's @ 77 M, 10 shot groups. Expecting the .22 heavier slugs shall do much better.

My gun range was designed for centerfires in mind, the long distances have a lot of "leaking wind" through the side.

So far I have tried tons of pellets in .22. The H&N 18 gn and eventually 21 gn is my second choice for 50 M.
I am tinkering dedicating this Impact MK2 for 100 M rings, I have the other .22 gun for 50M. Also my .22 Leshiy2 behaves satisfactory with 20-100 Y silhouettes.
I tried for a year (or two) the .25 slugs didn't worked extremely well I wanna try now as a .22. I have all the parts - can build plenty of scenarios, only what I don't know yet the .22 slugs how easy to propel with pellet probe.

Winter here, yes I can tune in my garage for ES/SD but that means nothing without shooting the rings.

What liner are you using for the MRD’s? I dabble with them at times out of my .22 slugger. I switch to a 1:16 for them.

Anything heavy or longer in the caliber of the liner seems to do better with the 1:16 for me.

.25 heavy mk1 and 2, Hades and slugs 30 and over.

In .22 monsters, 33.95s and slugs 21 and heavier
