Pellet stacking ability aside, what else determines what your favorite guns are?

Hate to say I am in the best tool works camp. Best rifle I ever owned was a RAW HM1000 in .20 That rifle was single ragged hole at 50m and had a gorgeous piece of walnut to nestle your cheek to. Gave me a hardon every time I loaded a mag. Flawless. In an ideal world they would be the rifle I shoot. Only issue is that I live in a gun-phobic country. I now shoot an L2 with extreme silencing in .25 It fits into a small day pack and makes next to no noise. I can carry it to shooting and not frighten the populace and shoot it with no one any the wiser. Not as precise in shot placement, far from as pretty, but I get to shoot without explaining myself (even though entirely legal shooting) every time I go out to bash the pests. It doesn’t (to be honest) help that I live in the very centre of a city. Country folks are more accepting.

Looks definitely play a role, but I can also learn to love a not so good looking gun if it has other good points. My ideal air rifle is my .22 HW98. For me it's the perfect combination of fit and finish, ergonomics, overall quality, and beauty. The flip side of that coin would be the IZH-61. To me, it's one ugly gun, fit and finish is marginal, but it has decent ergonomics, is lightweight, and is rugged and reliable. It's a great little shooter that I've really come to appreciate.

In the firearms world, I always thought one the ugliest guns ever made was the 9mm Sten SMG, and I still think it's a clunky looking eyesore, but after I had the opportunity to shoot one, I gained real appreciation for it. What it lacks in looks, ergonomics, fit and finish is more than made up for by its incredible reliability and ease of use. For what it was designed for, it works well.

It's all a balancing act.

Ergonomics? Looks? Trigger? Maybe one gun just sounds better than the rest.

I only ask because there are a few guns that shoot amazing but I just don't shoot them often because of how they catch my eye. I'm curious to see how many people are as vain as me vs people who are strictly "its a tool to do a job. Best tool wins!"
All of the above. There are so many various airguns out there that (aside from pure competition) I can kind of have it all if I’m patient and selective.

Solid simple build quility...Taipan Veteran, Kalibergun Mini Carbine, Daystate Huntsman come to mind. Nice wood or laminate stock, the nicer the better. I have no use for the adjustable built in problem type airguns or the "cheaper" lower end type air guns...I crave good triggers surpurb barrels and lean towards the bullpup designs. Members real life reviews and comments and to a lesser extent manufacturers reputation has guided my selections...and I've had great success buying used from known members here on AGN. The "latest and grestest" makes for interesting reading but generally no interest for me, for example FXs original smooth twist barrel still makes me giggle just how well they shoot...The Huntsman Regals bolt action is strong enough to tow a car with...and don't even get me started on the Taipan Veteran "original", and lately the Kalibergun Mini Carbine, I'm glad I got one of these and I think history will lament the fact that ALL these platforms are no longer in production...replaced by the latest and greatest.

The Huntsman is probably my top choice for a PCP for my use. I dont need crazy power and it ticks every single box for me.

How it shoots
How it feels
How it looks
How easy it is to repair
The above plus how uncomplicated it is to shoot. I have a SSP and a springer. Gun, pellets, shoot. And, yes, the gun has to be inherently dead nuts accurate. No excuses for not hitting the mark, I am to be the determinant.

My FWB 603 is the last airgun I will part with, if ever. Shoots .04-.05” c-c as long as I do my part, looks great, configures to fit perfectly, trigger to die for, simple to maintain and shoot.

All that said it’s my Pro Sport springer I shoot the most by far. Why? Because it is capable of being very accurate beyond what I can do with it, and I’ll be d__med if it gets the better of me.

So add ‘that it challenges me’ to the list.

everything you just said , perfect description

I like my Sapsan S, the wood isn't exactly what I wanted but it feels nice, the gun itself, is ....ok, light...fun to shoot but don't expect crazy accuracy and insane SD's. My Mavericks( .22 Compact 500mm, .25VP 600mm), just fit, monkey with them, get them to work with most anything and just shoot. THE most perfect gun....nah not even close I'm sure, but they are the right tool for me for the job.
