Pellet tins?

Uses for empty pellet tins:

  1. If you're into pellet sorting, mark the top with a magic marker and place sorted pellets in the appropriate container.
  2. Drill one hole in the top about 1/8" diameter. Put about $3 in quarters in the tin and tape the top & bottom together around the edge with electrical tape. Stick a lollipop in the hole. You now have a small target stand and exploding (yet safe) target. (It stays upright on a "winger" and also makes a fun sound!)
  3. Drill three very fine holes in the top (or punch them with a tiny brad nail). Stick toothpicks in the holes after hot-gluing an aspirin or vitamin C to the other end of the toothpick. You now have a really tiny target stand and three tiny exploding (yet safe) targets. For a self-resetting target, put meat dipped in Pepsi* (not diet) on the toothpicks and attract picnic bees (yellow jackets). For smaller self-resetting targets, dip half of the toothpick in something stinky (cat droppings, fish guts) and put toothpicks in the stand, stinky-side up. Shoot the flies that land on it. (season and location dependent)
  4. With a rotary tool (Dremel) cut a thin slit in the top to hold a playing card vertically. Put the tin on your target stand, but turn it sideways and practice splitting the card the long (hard) way.

I save the JSB type large tins with the protective sponge on both top & bottom. I lube with Pledge sprayed on the sponges in the tin top & bottom, add pellets or slugs, then gently roll and turn to lube the pellets. I dump them into an appropriate cardboard box to dry. I usually spray the bottom of the cardboard box with the pledge and allow to dry prior dumping in the slugs. I'm not sure if that prevents the cardboard from absorbing the wet lube, but it sounds good. I also wash pellets and slugs before treatment, especially if pre-lubed, just to maintain a consistent lubrication type in my guns.

You could put your weed in there 😏
Yea, with some of "Colorado's finest", that would be a "self resetting target" for sure, but I'd suspect that you may get in trouble for shooting the critters trying to imbibe in the bud rather than the flies landing on the cat poo. I'll stick with "plan A" and shoot the flies or yellow-jackets.

I tried several H&N slugs to no avail. I threw away all the unused slugs and now use the tins as containers for my wife’s NSA and my Zan slugs. Neither of the two companies ship in a user friendly package. With NSA their packaging helps keep costs down so I get that. Zan packaging can be made into targets which I never use.
I hear ya! I saved all of the screw top tins that I have for just that reason, and have the pop top ones in the queue for destruction on this post, and I took out four today. I was a little surprised that the Crosman pellet tins that I get from Walmart are all screw top, but the JSB, FX, etc., that I have to special order have pop tops.

Wish more mfgrs used the screw on lids. Generally toss the slip on lids but save any screw on lids, have quite a few older tins but not many newer tins are made with screw on lids....are any mfgrs reading this? Yes we want screw on lids.....
You can buy Simply pellets from Pyramid Air. Unfortunately I think they only make them in 177. They have screwed on lids and at 10 meters from a rest with my FWB 300 s I put five shots in the 10 ring, three through the same hole.
