perhaps my next 10M target pistol...

Thinking about this as my next .177 pistol. Something like the Gamo Compact (discontinued), or a FAS 6004 (twice the price, also discontinued.)

Air Venturi V10
https://www.airgundepot.com/gaaicotapi1.html

Only using it for 10M target-shooting. Single-stroke pump. No co2/pcp, etc.

Before I commit, anything like this pistol you'd recommend instead?

Beeman P17 for $30 if you want to get similar accuracy and power and save money. I have the Gamo Compact and AV V10 too. I dont like the Gamos and V10s are plastic for what you pay one of my $299 Gamo Compacts upper had cracked with enough use because it's plastic. Wouldnt have been too bad if it we $30. Just have to watch for skin pinch with the P17 that's a bit harder to close and has a pop to it when fired. Seems to have more power than the AV V10 but haven't chromed to compare.

The HW40 PCA or Beeman P3 is the real German Chinese Beeman P17 that cost 6-8x the Chinese $30 clone P17 which is a pretty good accurate shooter worth buying IMHO!!!

I have 2 FAS 6004s too and those seem best built but weak in power and there's been QC issues with them losing power and shooting real slow so beware. Not sure who fixes these?

Buy a HW75 Beeman P2 if you want to spend money for a worthwhile SSP target pistol or find a used springer FWB 65 or 80 or FWB SSP 100 102 103 or Springer GISS Diana model 6 or equivalent Beeman 800 or 850 if you want the best.

I want the gun to qualify for "sporter" events. Of which I'm not sure the ones you mentioned are. The list is pretty short for that.

I will definitely look over those suggestions, thank you! Obviously has to be something still in production, if I'm going to buy new.

You can buy the AV V10 thats the same pistol as the Gamo Compact but you probably won't win if you're competing against others shooting their Crosman 2300s co2 (Or the $125-$140 Crosman co2 custom shop equivalent with Lothar Walther barrel with any name personalized name engraved for free) or 1701p PCP that's super easy to hand pump.

I would like buy my equipment to actually win.

Those are the ones I would use if I was on a tight budget if I really wanted to show up and win.

I would also buy a $30 Beeman P17 and do some light mods to it (simple instructions available online for trigger work thats all needing to be done) before buying another $199 AV V10 because of the plastic (not ballistic polymer).

Is there a difference between the Beeman P17 and Marksman 2004? I assume one is a newer model than the other.

They are the same gun. Beeman and Marksman are both owned by SR industries. Sachiko and Robert Beeman thus the SR.

Clever marketing strategy. Same with the older HW imported springers of yesteryear same HW guns wearing different brand labels. Beeman or Marksman.

Really have no idea how they pulled off copying the Weihrauch HW40 PCA that they originally imported as their Beeman P3 then market a cheap Chinese clone naming them the P17 and Marksman 2004.

Not too overly surprised such a high quality Beeman brand originally importing German and English guns now marketing Chinese guns. That's life!!! All about the money now!!!

The P17 and Marksman 2004 are at least good copies of German pistols for cheap and are accurate. Looks like the Chinese even copied the accuracy.

Thanks Don! I see one's on Amazon for about $110. https://amzn.to/2PN74Aj

Nice lookin' shooter! But I'm looking for single-shot pump.

Honestly, I think until I'm flush with $250, instead of it hurting a little bit (who needs food anyway?) as it would today, I'm considering the P17. Which is barely toilet-paper money. :)

f

That is a 22 and co2 and who knows if that's any good since Hatsan makes Webley right? Like the Alecto multi pump pistol?

I'm not sure anything you listed in that post qualifies for "sporter" events, I'll check. Specs are pretty tight on those, weight, thickness, etc.
This is rifle, but a good example (PDF warning): http://rulebooks.nra.org/documents/pdf/compete/RuleBooks/SAR/sar-book.pdf

I have looked into that Crosman custom shop. Even have one in the shopping cart for someday. Still, co2.

I don't compete nearly as much as I used to, so winning isn't likely a concern I'll face anytime soon. But I still want to keep up the practice of it as realistic as I can afford.

Thanks for all your input Yo!

I’m getting curious about this P17 business. Especially if it qualifies for any form of competition. I’ve heard about it for a long time now. Also have a reason to pull the trigger now that the kids are wanting a pistol airgun.

Yo! Would you really put the accuracy of a P17 against a Crosman custom shop CO2 gun at 10 yards? I had a standard Crosman barrel on mine and it did quite well. When I put the very long Crosman barrel (regret not going with the longer LW barrel) I was still shooting mid .2s at 10 yards with anything pointed (oddly enough). That barrel really liked this very old tin of Crosman pointed pellets I had best, but after those ran out I resorted to JSB Stratton. Groups opened up at distance but was killer at 10.

Yea those 177 Crosman Copperhead 7.9gr pointeds were like old Premiers in the brown boxes accurate to 55 yards.

The P17 should outgroup a standard Crosman (NON Lothar Walther) on paper they are that accurate and only the LW custom shop or 2300s or 1701P will outgroup it. There's nothing under $130 that can beat it's accuracy maybe a $69.99 Gamo IGT P900 but that's full plastic like a young kids toy I have 2 and they actually do group 0.20" and better at 10 yards from a good steady pistol rest. I can plink water bottle caps at 20 yards with them. The P17 is the same but easier to shoot without the movement. Bear in mind it's kinda hard to close the lever on the down stroke so a youngster may not be able to cock it without adult help.

If you can find a used Daisy 747 that pistol is super easy to cock and shoot all day long kind of slowish on power spaced at 360fps but perfect for plinking and enough to kill a rat or sparrow head shot out to 15 yards.

I would copy Hapo who did a Crosman custom shop co2 LW barrel pistol for $135 and have each of their names engraved for free.

I was browsing a bit and it seems there are a number of choices. Although some you may have to hunt down.

Sig Sauer target pistol ($349)

Fas 6004 ($515) *

Weihrauch HW 75 ($449)

Air arms Alpha ($799)

Beeman P3* (made in germany) and the HW40

Beeman P17 (made in China)

Izzy 46m (Russian) *

HW44 ($932)

(*) I have these 3 and they are all good shooters. I would love to add an AA Alpha to the collection some day.
