Pesting isn’t hunting! But…

In my 4 months here anybody that recognizes me might remember I’m limited to 13 yards for now.
Believe me I make the most of it Haa. So out the window ”opens” a new world. I have woods and
swamp behind house, which is great but 5 or so years ago the town put in a bike trail. So I gotta be
more cautious. Well the original pest which started my journey in high pressure air was squirrels.
I’m doing a (to me) a necessary job of deterring them. No pleasure and some guilt in not eating them
which ive never done. This week Starlings showed up. They’re ganging up under feeder. This pisses
me off. 3 days ago got my first shots yes shots with pistol at 10 yards. WTF missed, turn out red dot
way off on Reximex. Grabbed untried Beeman and nailed first black bastard. Very satisfying feeling.
2 days ago they were out there and I miss several times huh ? Damn sit my butt down on floor and grab
Revere. Ooo man they’re in the trees about 25 to 35 yards. Pop, it tumbled to ground. THAT was
satisfying. Yesterday in cellar shooting while peeking out tiny window. Black blobs appear. Hummm ?
Akela ready but has a red dot on, how about zelos it’s got air and whatever pellets. Rest on sill,
trajectory unknown Clink! and down it falls. About an hour later same thing.
This morning a repeat from first kill. Miss with pistol and knock one out of tree with Revere 25.
Satisfaction.

Pesting is .... unabashed Killing.
IT can also be food on the table today i got a Squirrel , just under the ears middle back of the head shot and the loudest hollow sound POP i have ever heard .
HW97 , 11.6 FPE , 8.4 wadcutter .

Excellent shooting! I am terrible with pistols, a barn door is safe with me shooting...😂....so don't feel bad! You have a wonderful stable of PCP's to get the job done. Like you, I got into airguns because rat issues...I thank them now each time I put one to sleep for getting me into airgunning! Keep up the wonderful pesting duties!

I remember very briefly in my youth seeing rats around house. Even then unaware of the world was grossed out.
I just cautioned girl partner I read somewhere bird feeders could attract rats. Don’t know if true but would kill the host to eliminate. When ants show I poison and crush and claim to not care if ten years are taken off my life to not see one in my house . So I like crows and have some history, but these mini ravens I will persecute to the best of my ability

Pesting is... unabashed killing.

Nice, Scott. 👍🏼

Now you have me wonder....:
If "pesting is unabashed killing" —
what does that make hunting? 🤔

➧ Maybe:
"Hunting is bashful killing." ➧ ?

With all the self-imposed laws, traditions, and the rules of a Boone-&-Crockett "fair chase," maybe that's their way to cover the shame when killing...?

Sorry for the unabashed questions.... 😉

When the squirrels are chewing through the phone and internet wires such that the providers says “is what it is” for years while chewing into attics throughout the neighborhood, there’s strong motivation.

I build bird nests and constructed a small blue bird trail on my property and surrounding area. I read in one of the bird journals that using pellet rifles to control HOSPs was inefficient and cruel. The author claimed it impossible to reduce the HOSPs and it was better to use sparrow proofing and to catch the sparrows (and drown them!) and blah, blah, blah, which I tried many of the suggestions (not the drowning) with no good result. I can assure all, it is indeed possible to suppress the resident HOSP population by means of an air rifle. I rarely see one these days due now for several years of constant pressure on them. One sticks it's little HOSP head up and it does not have a head for long. And I am pretty sure there is no suffering when a JSB 34 grain zips through at 900 fps. All there is left is a cloud of feathers and sometimes a most satisfying pop. And I have also noted a definite increase in the blue birds local to me.
