Pigeon decoys

I ordered some pigeon decoys from Amazon for about $20 a while back. I didn't realize that they would be coming all the way from China, and I had to wait several weeks to get them. The box, which weighed next to nothing, was crushed so I expected there would be damage. The birds are hollow and made from a rubber-like material, so even though some were crushed they were still usable, a shot of compressed air restored them. But they were really light weight, if they were on the ground even a slight breeze would blow them away.

What I did was to slit them open on the top and filled them with plaster of Paris. That gave them the weight I wanted but it also made them top heavy and I couldn't use the clothes pin attachments. I removed them and cut some old paint paddles to make a base. I just hot glued them in place and painted the wood flat black. Later I used some spray paint to make them a bit more pigeon-like in appearance.

If I had those decoys, first thing I'd do is paint one all dark grey, another white with brownish wings. Next one, body-dark gray, wings-light gray. Another body-light gray, wings-dark gray. Maybe not as critical to be as exact as Calbarry's beautifully accurate examples, but these sharp-eyed birds aren't easily fooled.

Those decoys don't look like any pigeon coloration I've ever seen. Maybe that's what pigeons in China look like..IDK?

Most birds see color fairly well..the pigeons are probably going.."WTF..what are those things with polka-dots ?"
