Pigeon Down and then it wasn't.

Went to one of my permissions tonite for a quick pigeon shoot. After sitting there for a few minutes I zero'd in on one sitting on one of the cat walks between the grain bins. My compact Impact in
.25 did it job as expected, then the unexpected happened. The pigeon hadn't been on the ground for more than 2 seconds and a hawk came rocketing in and hit it hard with another puff of feathers flying. Sat on top of it for about 10 seconds and flew away with it. Wish I'd had a scope camera for that action!

Not long ago dropped a big crow with the Wildcat. A few minutes later, noticed, off to my left, a commotion on the woodpile behind my 50-yard target. Seems a Cooper's Hawk decided to make a meal of the crow. The hawk and I repeated this routine a few more times, now, each time I'm out on the porch he lands in a nearby tree and calls loudly. Wish I could oblige, but the crows don't seem to get the same kick out of it that hawk and I do. WM

I live in a subdivision and there is no way to shoot the tree rats here safely. Thankfully nature abhors a vacuum and some hawks have moved into the area and have become quite adept at catching the tree rats. They have taken three out my back sliding door this summer that I have got to watch.
Really amazing to watch the hawks maneuver around the branches to catch them.

There's been 3 different times a rabbit was in the back yard, I turned away for about 30 seconds "each time" only to see a hawk pulling it apart. Never once seen the hit. I get the need for video!

I have two barn owls and a hawk that like to sit in the trees in my yard. They are almost impossible to see because they blend in so well. There is a tall oak tree that sits 52 yards out. The top of it is dead, so there aren't any leaves. The Eurasian doves like to land there. I"ve only been able to retrieve a few of them. Most of the times, as soon as they hit the ground, an owl or the hawk swoops down to get it. It's fun to watch them do this, but I wish they would leave a few for me. LOL

I was in my backyard 1 day, where a dove was eating on the ground not 15 feet away from me. Out of no where, a hawk hit the dove, sat on it while getting a better grip I guess, then flew off with his prize.
Hawks got to eat too. NG moment.
