Other Pistol grips from CF resin

Hello everyone.

I would like to try to make some grips from Marble CF resin from Aliexpress.

Anyone tried it? Would love to hear from someone who has some experience with this material.

Excellent material Vlada. You handle it like wood (cut, grind, sand, polish), but no need for oil treatment at the end. And this hybrid wood is water resistant and do not creep. I use it a lot for my full tang knives for that reason.

Great. So it shouldn't melt or burn when cutting or sanding? Was worried about that because it is some kind of resin with carbon fiber.
I would cut it roughly to shape, then use double sided tape to stick them together and then sand them and maybe use dremel, too. Sounds good?
Do you know if I should drill holes last or should that be done at the beginning?

No worries about melting or any other concerns handling this material.
I would definitely drill the holes early in the process, because that is what I do when making pistol panels.
A couple of examples, here for my HW 45`s.

These look great! I think I will try first with some cheaper wood first to go through whole process and not risk destroying blanks.

Hint - make some, or offer with a "palm swell" for those of us with larger hands.
That is, a bit fatter in the center to fill the "palm" of the hand.

You're going to need to look into proper ventilation and filtration for your breathing. Those particles can be VERY harmful to you and your lungs. If you are going to be cutting/grinding/sanding.

i did some searching yesterday on this material and only found knife scales and knowing pistol grips can be much thicker and wider where are you find the material and know Ali was mentioned but that is a hard site to find stuff

I am aware of that. Most likely that will be done outside this spring. Learned the hard way that I should protect my airways when dealing with chemichals and unknown particles

Yes, these are hard to find on Ali in good dimensions. The copper one are not available now, or I cannot find them, but I did find this one.

but 8-10mm is hardly enough to make grips with, you would need at least 20-25mm but what do i know i guess you could glue up some blocks

For strong contours it might be thin, but factory grips for my PP750 are not even that thick. I might use plane shreded carbon ones, without copper and put 1-1.5 mm red G10 plate underneath to add some thickness and a bit of colour.
