Pistol ID?

My friend gave me this pistol. I know it’s a 2240 crossman and has a BNM parts, but I’m not sure about the pcp conversion. He told me he bought the gun online from a website built like this. Any idea as to what kit this is? I don’t want to overfill the tank.

Adding the end cap on a 2240 will not pierce the CO2 cartridge. On the 2240, if the valve has not been changed to a Discovery valve or modified 2240 valve, the co2 cartridge is pierced the first time the hammer is cocked and dry fired. The first dry fire should then pierce the cartridge. If the valve has been changed to a Discovery valve, you will have to change it back to a 2240 valve or get the proper charging adapter and use co2 in the HIPAC adapter. The 2240 valve does not have to be pinned if you only use co2. An unmodified 2240 valve will have a piercing pin in the valve attached to the exhaust (poppet) valve. You can see the piercing pin in an unmodified valve by shining a light into the tube. It will be pointed in the center of the valve end. Make sure there is no air or co2 in the gun before removing the HIPAC. Do this by dry firing the gun making sure. There will only be a dull thud if there is no co2 or air present. If you hear a pop, keep dry firing until you hear only the thud.

If you don't really understand these things, get with a friend to help you the first time. We all had to learn these things at one time ourselves.

Please feel free to e-mail me if you desire help concerning this gun.

Jonah - you need to re-read my response. I am fully aware of how things work re: the 22XX format - if his valve hasn't been altered, all he has to do is add the 2240 muzzle end cap (after safely removing the hipac) and ad a co2 cart. Again, if the valve still possesses the piercing pin, everything should work as designed. Not sure why you have issues with my response. RE READ if necessary.

Looks like a hipac. Be careful. Theres this dude who modified his same gun to pcp with the hipac and it blew up cause the tube wasnt strong enough and shot the valve right into his legs. Ouch.

Everyone interested in what really happened needs to watch this all the way through.

The hipac was modified - the section that mates with the co2 valve face was removed, as in cut off, and a COMPLETE Discovery valve was used.

So instead of just the tiny face of the c02 valve seeing the pressure, the larger surface area of the Discovery valve face was seeing the pressure -

and that valve was only pinned with ONE valve retention screw. That would be asking for trouble with an unmodified Disco, so no different with the modified/altered hipac.

ALSO - he used two barrel bands, one right over the edge of the 22XX tube/hipac junction - don't know how tight he had those grub screws - could have been a contributing factor.

Just a thought...
