Pistol Silhouette

SAZ, It appears I am about ready to sight in. Thanks for the helpful hints and links.

From what I see in Strelok, sighting in at 15 yds should be good for all the distances based upon the pellet and velocity for this setup. Only minor corrections needed from dead center for each of the animals. (Now, if I could only hold still.)

 cstar,

Did you go with the AT3 Tactical, RD-50 red dot? I can't really tell from the picture, but it looks like one.

If it is, how do you like it? I've really liked mine, but am currently experimenting with a UTG, 2-7X44, Accushot Scout Rifle Scope.

The magnification really helps me focus on the target. With the red dot (and my non-perfect vision) the targets are somewhat out of focus. We'll see.........

I find with the red dot (or the new scope) that with only minor movement I am able to hit silhouettes at various distances between 10 meters and 20 yards.

Nice looking gun you have there. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the combo after you get it dialed in.

SAZ, yes that’s the AT3. So far it is working well. It’s kind of the “Goldie locks” of red dot size. 2 moa, not too big, not too small.

Ive gone a little over board on optic choices I’ve ordered two more to try out. A Barska AC10322 50mm, 5moa and a Barska AC13154 1x40 reflex.

Sunday will be trial by fire for the one power optic. I may need to try the magnification route as well. Let me know how your UTG Scout scope works out. Your advice has been spot on , so far. Keep up the good work.

cstar,

I don't have any experience with the Barska products, only the AT3. I don't understand why the AT3 doesn't get more "forum love" from other shooters. It's a great little sight with a great warranty and it's priced right. Oh well, just my opinion, different strokes I guess?

I thought maybe I should clarify a little bit about my magnification comments. When I'm shooting silhouettes at distances up to about 20 yards I can focus in on them pretty well and have no problem at all with a red dot or open sights.

It's when I'm attempting to shoot at 1" or 2" orange or green paper stick on targets and 1" (25 Meter air rifle benchrest) paper sheet targets or, well, any paper targets with scoring rings or markings on them that are in the 1" thru 3" size that I run into problems. Targets that small are just a blur to me once I get much past 10 meters. Hence my quest for some magnification assistance.

I've shot the pistol with the UTG scope on it a little bit. Holy Cow is it heavy! But the glass is clear, the reticle is very thin (a good thing to me) and I like it so far. Maybe I just need to pump a little iron and whip myself into better shape for tackling this, LOL!

Loading up the guns and heading to the range tomorrow myself. Hope you have fun Sunday!
