Playing with my RTI prophet proformance .25

So I decided to change the tune on my prophet to see if I could get some crow mags to group well enough to dart some vermin in my goat feeder approx 20yds. So after chasing my zero and never getting a good group in my 13 yd basement range. I thought wth I’ll shoot some somthing else near me I had some of the 26.8 on the slung a few and holy cow they grouped really well. 💡came on I’m gonna try them at low power. Reg 85 and hammer spring approx 2.5 threads exposed nets me 11.9 fpe. The quest for super stealth has now been achieved. At 35 yds my group is averaging 16mm center to center. I wish I could do better but I can’t I drink way too much coffee my pulse moves me to much.
Anyway I know a lot of people like the high power but I thought I’d share my experience with the lower power. So far I’ve been able to reliably hit a had boiled egg out to 60yd my back yard max. Shot count is insane. According to my DB readings I’m getting 77db 3 in from muzzle.

I've also lowered the power on most all of my guns.

I figure that if the Olympic shooters can do so well with very low power, non-expert shooters can too. I also have an under 25 yard range. All of my rifles are .22 cal. I've lowered the power to 750 to 800fps. (depending on the adjustability). Guess what, I'm STILL hitting point of aim (a LITTLE adjustment required on a coupla guns), AND the sound output has dropped drastically. And as a side benefit, I'd imaging the guns guts are also happier, not having to deal with the 900+fps power settings.

I am probably going to reduce the velocity/power of my two .25s, a P35 and an Avenger. The P35 started out shooting the FTTs it likes at about 850 and it was accurate and I was getting about 70 shots per fill. But the regulator was reacting to the fact that the hammer spring was not set high enough to empty the chamber by reducing the first shot velocity a little. So I turned the hammer spring up until the velocity stopped increasing and then fine tuned that a little for smaller groups. Most recently I took the barrel off and cleaned up the barrel port, polished the barrel, and polished the crown. I gained 20 fps, there was an obstruction in the barrel port, but now accuracy seems worse. 895 fps may be too fast for FTTs. Shot count is also lower. So I may turn the regulator down and shoot for 850 fps again. That is only about 30 fpe but that should kill squirrels just fine.

My Avenger shoots FX 25.4s at about 930 fps. Close range accuracy is good but the one time I shot it at longer range it was not good at all, Again, I'm think lower velocity may help. On the Avenger, that is much easier to do than the P35, Reg is about 2100, I just need to degass and set it to about 1900, P35 has no gauge for the regulated chamber and access to the regulator is inside the air tube. So some disassembly is necessary. Fortunately I like the tinkering. Squirrel season is over a week from tomorrow. Then it will be time for retuning.

I generally shoot all my air guns on the low power side. I don’t need them to be rimfire other wise I’d just shoot my rimfire.
I did make a slight tune change bumped the power up to 490fps the ES is now 5fps instead of the every so often zinger I’m guessing it wasn’t dumping the plenum enough. The overall harmonics seems better too.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one rocking lower power stuff.
