Please advise - How to clean oil out of air cylinder?

Hi everyone:

As you know I recently purchased a Yong Yeng compressor, and some how during the filling process oil got inside my 1 L air tank, 300 PCP bottle for my Leshiy 2 and thus the gun and Taipan. :( I can smell the oil. And I did this twice. Yes, idiot. I have to clean tank air and I did a multiple flushing, but still there.

I have completely depressurized and removed the 300 cc bottle from the Leshiy 2 and the 1 L buddy bottle. I thought to disassemble the 1 L bottle and 300 CC clean the bottles with a soap and water mix, shaking clean and do this many times then letting the bottles stand vertically while they dry next to the radiator. The original Leshiy 2 air cylinder was removed weeks ago thus isn’t affected.

Also, I plan to run the compressor in a closed room with out the compressor under load and see if I smell oil when I go back in into the room. I will wear a mask to minimize me breathing it and there is a window in the room so I can close the door and vent the room after my check. I figure if I can’t smell oil from the compressor then it should be okay. Or not? Any thoughts?

Right now my main concern is about the 300 CC bottle and guns, not the compressor or 1L buddy bottle. My 7 L tank is unaffected, it has not been attached to the compressor only the 1 L buddy bottle.

Please advice.

@Glem.Chally Thanks. I will do the 300 CC bottle like described with warm water using dish soap.

I did have the oil / moisture cap on, but it failed some how, but I have a replacement. I have completely disassembled the stock of the leshiy and I can feel some oil in there, but that is an easy clean and I have degreaser.

The only thing I can guess maybe the compressor had a vapor lock and then loosen and spit oil. It is weight 46 as suggested which cost 18 euros for a liter so it should be good. I will do another order from Amazon today for the oil, all the damn stores are closed so can’t really go to hardware store to get it, ****ing lockdown here in the Netherlands.

Yeah I think that oil cap with its vent hole is really important to keep the crank case pressure at a proper level. Maybe something funny happened there regarding pressure.

You have a "gold filter" or something else filled with desiccant? Those little filters dont cut it and worth having reliable filtration for moisture and oil. I have a big filter going into a little supplied one filled with 13x desiccant beads that works great and is cheap "insurance".

And I would replace the jets if my order from EdgunWest would every arrive, its been six weeks and for some reason stuck in Canada for 2 of the six. No one seems to want to help me get them. When if they haven’t arrived by next Friday, I will be in USA the following Monday so too late for me and the local post office better recover them because of their **** up, and send them address in Idaho. Why Bryan uses USPS for international orders is beyond me! Yes, more venting on a $300 order and still no parts, pressure tester is with it. Francisco would have never allowed this to happen and if it did do his best to make it right.

When I did my order I got a better first stage, but I will order a moisture trap. I am heading to USA then end of next week, so I figure it can wait until I get back. A week of not shooting won’t kill me. I did try to remove the valve assembly on what I got from 1 L bottle, but no go. Again lockdown really prevents me from going to any workshop to get it removed cleaned and reassembled.

It is normal for the compressor to smell like oil as the vented cap allows air in and out of the crankcase which has oil in it. Unless you have a good desiccant filter, with charcoal included, your tanks will smell a bit like oil too this is normal also. It doesn't mean much since it is not breathing air and you should not worry much about the smell.

Not using the vented cap, supplied with the compressors, would cause excessive crankcase pressure and possibly cause a bit of oil to get pushed past the first stage rings and into your system and tanks. If there is an actual build up of oil in your tanks then you should worry although a good flush with soapy water should clear it out as you have done.

Pic shows the tall black vented cap, on the left, that should be on our compressor.

Here are a couple of filters that should help with the moisture and smell. These will quickly be thrashed if you have the "Simple" version of the Yong Heng. If that is the case upgrade the compressor, with the cyclone water separator, or get another one.

A smaller one will probly do for many.

@biohazardman thanks. Currently I am washing the 300 CC bottle with warmer/hot water and the letting it "soak" with soap inside then shake and rinse. I have a pretty sensitive nose so I should be able to smell any remaining oil, and I plan to do this 10 times today.

@enkey, thanks and I will try the soap and water first, then if I still smell something then I will go for the brake cleaner. It is regular dish soap and just a drop so I don't see it doing any harm to the tank. The tank looks like a carbon fiber metal tank, so I will take your advice and order everything.

Plus they injected me with so many things, I feel my immune system "has been there done that attitude", and covid is a "seriously move along" to my immune system. Yes, I might be lucky but when your body has been immunized three times against Smallpox in 25 years, your immune system has a been there done that attitude. Once a vaccine for a much more lethal virus sent me to the hospital with a severe sinus infection, but as the doc said, it wasn't the vaccine / virus directly, it was my damn thickheadness. I don't have normal sinuses which thus increase the chances of sinus infections. My frontal sinus is doesn't exist, pure bone I can tell a woman I am thick headed, and back it up. 😂

@odoyle I know what oil smells like, so I feel it and smell it. As I am washing the cylinder out I am capturing waste water in a stainless steel bowl and I see "droplets" in the bowl, which can only be oil and the smell is slowly disappearing, and I can't taste it either, and no I am not licking it.

When it comes to smell and taste my senses are very keen. I can taste someone is a smoker even when I can't smell it, the same applies to many odors including oil.
