Please help this newbie

Hello all, as I'm sure you read all the time I am new to air rifles. I am looking for a rifle between 200-300, scope is irrelevant as I have a scope rated for an air gun already. I am looking for the purpose of back yard pest removal. Preferably something in 22-25 Cal that can live in my truck. After doing my basic research I learned two things. One everyone who has taken then time to sign up on a forum hates the box store piston driven guns which was my primary plan. And two I found the Benjamin 392 which seemed near perfect until I realized it's been discontinued for a bit. Please keep in mind being quiet is very important for my needs. I even plan to paint parts of it orange before I get calls from neighbors about being out with a gun. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I can get a 2 inch group at 50 yards that would be more then enough for my needs. If I am totally off base with my hopes and dreams then that is useful information too. Thanks for all the help.

You might be a little off base, but you can come close. Umarex Notos with moderator insert and one aftermarket magazine (you can use the factory magazine for now) Do you have a way to fill a PCP gun? If not, you can use a hand pump.
As of now I don't have a way to fill it but I'm not against a hand pump for now. Any recommendations for a moderator, or pump? I heard rumors about 3D printing them?

I don't think that you will find a new rifle in that price range that is satisfactory. I would look for a good used spring gun, like a Weihrauch HW97 or an AA TX200. Both are robust guns that can withstand reasonable bouncing around in your truck. Two inch groups at 50 yards probably sounds like a low bar for accuracy if you come from a firearm background, but most inexpensive springers will not meet it.

Seneca Dragonfly This will check most of your boxes

A new Notos is $200-250. Pyramyd Air had the for like $207 last month. There will be sales coming up for the holidays. Sierra Tango (a member here) can sell you a printed moderator insert and magazine. For 50 some dollars. Can't help you on the pump. I always had tanks and compressors, but that stuff is way out of your price range.

I suggest you read some or post in the Pumps Tanks and Compressors forum. Additionally, I suggest you go to the search box at the top of the screen and type in Notos
read some posts and learn a little before buying anything.

Cometa Fenix 400. Gas piston break barrel. Simple, tough and about 1" at 50 yards.

It's well within the budget and you don't need to accessorize. A tin of Crosmans is all you need to start shooting.

Springers are harder to shoot than a PCP but they are just as "accurate" at 50 yards. They will push a 15 gr. pellet at about 700 fps. which is plenty for little vermin up to a jackrabbit.

For a truck gun I'd take a springer over a pcp any day. But that's just my personal opinion.

Where;s about you from? Check out Flying Dragon Air rifles. They might have something that could be used as a truck gun. I bought their break -barrel XS25SFB 22cal, an R34 clone I think, tuned by Air rifle smith Mike Melnick. I think it was $200. It shot pretty well. They also carry CO2 and PCP air guns. Another really good truck gun ( I think ) would be the PCP Hatsan Flashpup. Stout little gun. Bullpup configuration, synthetic stock, $300 at Pyramid Air. Mine is 22cal, hits hard and very accurate. It will reach out to 50 yds and give 1" groups. Check out the reviews on it.

Northern CA. Iowa seems a little out of my way for a daily commute haha. I'll give them a call after the holiday on Monday. Doesn't seem like they have a website hooked up to their Google.

hatsan usa has deals on their guns, refurbs,These flashpups r going for $250, Mine was a refurb, walnut stock too. Get a YONG HEN COMPRESSOR FROM WALMART for around $250, get the warrenty .Do that and you'll be a happy camper gauranteeeed. Oh, I use those Hawke AMX line 2-7x32 AO SCOPES. The reticle is very useful

I've got a bright green moderator insert made by our own Tango Sierra, PM me for details.

It's super quiet, makes the Notos mechanicals loud in comparison to the report.

Notos has my vote! Hand pump is fine for filling it. 4 Uncles on Amazon is a decent pump.

Airgun Archery Fun has a website that is worth visiting. Wes handles a lot of Snowpeak (SPA) made guns, some with another name on them. SPA makes the Notos. I took a quick look and saw a Beeman Chief II, 2000 psi, in 177 or 22 for $275 including a hand pump. I've never shot a Chief II but the reviews I've seen say the are very basic with a not great trigger pull but work fine. The Notos trigger doesn't get high marks from most users either. They have other airguns on the website that you might like better. I think he must be getting near a SPA shipment, however, because a lot of them are not in stock. Airgun Archery Fun is in Canada but ships to the US but they handle canadian spec airguns too. Canada does not permit moderators and the simpler permitting process is to have less than 500 fps velocity (not really what you want).

I like multi-stroke pneumatics but find them to generally be a little loud, if stealth is a problem. The Notos is outstanding for the money and nowadays there are surprisingly cheap manual pumps that work. It is fairly quiet as delivered. I have not tried the insert that Firewalker uses but intend to. I also highly recommend the Cometa fenix 400 from Keystone. My experience with hatsan has been rather poor.

As is common in posts like yours, and responses to them, too many qualifiers make your quest impossible. Hence, responders resort to well-meaning but often way off-base recommendations (like PCPs). In my opinion the Seneca Dragonfly is your best option. See the attachment.

I would take Bedrock Bobs advice. I knew within a couple posts guys would completely ignore your needs, budget and desire for simple ruggedness then start suggesting PCP’s. In your situation, I would be looking real hard at those Cometas. Not a Weihrauch but superior to box store junk.

Oops, just saw AirNGasmans post above me. Listen to him also. You don’t need a PCP and all the crap that goes with them.
