Please help: Whisper Fusion IGT/Elite Vs. Whisper Fusion Pro/Mach I in .22

After watching and reading about every Whisper Fusion .22 caliber review on the internet for the different Gamo models, I am seeking your long term experience with the Gamo Whisper Fusion break barrel air rifles. With a maximum budget of $250 and my neighbors need for quiet, I am searching a most reliable powerful Gamo rifle for hunting rabbits, raccoons, and the pests doing damage to property and my gardens. A have a first generation Benji Trail NP2 which is pretty accurate but the power is dropping off after 4 years. I need an accurate break barrel to take down crows and other critters at up to 50 yards. I never shot a Gamo break barrel and after all the research which one is the best choice? The Whisper Fusion IGT/ Elite look like the same rifle? But do they have enough power for accurate 50 yard shooting? The Whisper Fusion Pro / Mach I are supposed to have more power? Is the power enough for 50 yards and are these rifles accurate at that distance? Lastly, do I spend $225-$250 for the newer models Fusion Elite or Mach I? Or are the older models Fusion IGT or Fusion Pro at $150 a better choice? I have a reviewer's supply of different pellets. Which pellets were the most accurate in your experiences? Thanks for your input.

I have a Mach1. It is not whisper quiet. You will pay $250 for a Gamo break barrel that comes with a scope that is poor at best. My rifle ate the first scope in a week. So now you have to buy another scope for $100 so you have $350 invested and still have a hold sensitive breakbarrel. Or you could add another $50 and get a Seneca Aspen PCP. No pump required and quiet and scope friendly and not hold sensitive like a breakbarrel. Don't get me wrong, I like the breakbarrel and shoot it more than my PCP but that is because it is such a challenge to be able to pick it up and put the first shot where I want it. My Mrod is so accurate it is boring. But I don't mind being bored by accuracy.

Why wouldn't you choose the swarm magnum?

"Why not fix your Trail, it’s could be as simple as a piston seal or at worst the ram. Far cheaper then forking out $250 especially as you have said it’s pretty accurate. Just a thought"

My experience with my first generation NP2 Trail has been Good. The accuracy with the combo scope has been very good. It never had the power to reach out past 35 yards. At that distance it would only go through one side of a tin can. I don't have a chrony so a tin can is my measurement of killing power. I never thought much about it since it was more powerful than my pumpers until the power fell off to less than 30 yards last fall. My gardens are larger this year with more area to cover. A 22lr is not a choice and with one animal rights noisy neighbor quiet is essential. I need a more powerful gun for this spring and summer!

I have one question regarding your Mach 1. Do you have the .177 or .22 version? With the speed of sound being about 1050 and the .177 models of magnum gas pistons reaching around that number or higher, may that be the reason for your louder rifle or is it the poor Gamo moderator? The lower speed .22's I have heard with good moderators are not loud at all. Regarding the Aspen Seneca / Nova Freedom it may be worth it but I can't do the $400 plus the extra costs of compressed air bottles or pumps. My money is tight for the next six months because other family obligations like summer family trips and basketball camps. The woman would hit the ceiling. I was hoping the older versions of these break barrels would work at $150-175.

Khrome13 suggested the Swarm Magnum:

All the reviews I have read and watched were not complimentary about the high sound levels. One reviewer of a .22 caliber Magnum said "it was as loud as a subsonic .22lr." There is no way that will work. Maybe someone here with a break barrel experience at 50 yards that will help.

Thanks everyone, Gary

My Gamo is .22 cal and shoots 14.3 gr. pellets just over 800 fps so sonic crack isn't the issue. The majority of the noise from these guns are from the power plant slamming in two different directions. As for the Aspen, no air supply is needed since it has a built in pump and from what I have read it is extremely easy to pump. And considering Windmills suggestion makes pretty good sense as well.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the great information on your experiences with the different air rifles. I did read all the comments and apologize for not replying right away at the end of April. I spent the being outside for the 6 months WI has good weather. My summers are for getting outside stuff done so I am not on the computer until the weather gets bad. I did read all your advise and ended up getting a Nova Freedom instead of the Aspen because I never have any luck with combo scopes lasting. I love my Freedom air rifle. It does everything I want it to do, except I need to buy and install the HAJIMOTO's baffle kit to quiet it down more. It is accurate and had hitting easily to 50 yards. I think with some small improvements this air rifle will be good to 75 and maybe even 100 yards(better crowned barrel). The best long range air rifle along with the SWARM MAGNUM without buying all the expensive PCP accessories. I will never go back to not having a single shot air rifle. Thanks so much to all you!!!
