Please recommend a good but inexpensive hand pump for a beginner

I'm looking at the Diana Stormrider II Pump Kit from Pyramyd Air for $359.99, the pump is a Air Venturi G9 ($129.99 if purchased separately). Not wanting to spend anymore than I have to to get started I was thinking about purchasing the Stormrider II in .177 or .22 for $199.99 from Pyramyd Air and getting an eBay or Amazon pump that that costs $50 - $60. Is purchasing the hand pump separately a good idea or should I go ahead and get the kit? I don't care if it's the wood stock or synthetic stock model as long as it's a generation II air rifle. I think I'll enjoy PCP's and I'll probably end up buying a good compressor but that purchase will have to wait until later this summer. What hand pump do you recommend?

Don't listen to the naysayers. Hand pumps are fine as long as you're physically able and don't mind putting a little effort in. I had a Hill pump, which lasted 7 years of hard labor. I just bought this one about 6 months ago and it has been trouble-free for me:

There are cheaper ones out there, but this is what I went with. Works great to fill my Marauder to 3000PSI or my FX Dreamline to 3625PSI. It is more work to get the higher fill pressures.

I have a Benjamin and it works fine but I got an inexpensive one from Amazon, I think I paid $60, after getting an Avenger and I think it works better. I have to put a little silicone oil on both of them occasionally. The feet of the cheaper pump fold up which is handy for transportation. It also has a tiny cotton filter that seems OK for a hand pump to keep oil out of the gun and moisture too. I would just look for the folding feet and the filter and buy one from Amazon. I would not presume that paying another $100 will get you a better one. I usually do not buy the cheapest one either. Something near but not at the bottom of the price range will probably be fine. And if it is a dud, Amazon is really good about returns.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I really want to get into a PCP and at $199 the Diana Stormrider mark II seems the way to go but it's the pump that's holding me back. I've probably watched every video on YouTube about compressors and it seems the really reliable ones that last a long time with routine maintenance cost much more than what I think they are worth. I'm thinking hand pump because the Stormrider is only a 100cc gun, I don't want to spend a lot of money only to find out I can't pump the darn thing. If I go with a hand pump from Amazon or Pyramyd Air and the pumping is to difficult for me I can always return them. Now I have to decide .177 or .22 and wood or synthetic stock.

There is a lot of ammunition choices in .22 caliber as well as a better ballistic coefficient, so you are not as limited to the game, pests, paper, or weather conditions that you are shooting.

I've used this one for about 6 years without issue https://www.amazon.com/VEVOR-Airgun-Pressure-Stirrup-4500PSI/dp/B078V1RM4F/ref=sr_1_4?crid=CA6BZA5C15DX&keywords=vevor+hand+pump&qid=1644559745&s=sporting-goods&sprefix=vevor+handpump%2Csporting%2C390&sr=1-4

Never had to touch it other than a few drops of lube. MUCH netter than the original hill ( but anything would have been), have had another Hill and 2 FX pumps this one pumps easier and will hit 4,500psi, pretty sure it has a slightly smaller piston making pumping easier # 3,000psi.

You might try asking for recommendations in the air supply section of the forum:

There is no reason to pay over $100 for a good handpump these day's. The prices are still as high as when Scuba was the only other choice and there is nothing to a handpump.

Now do beware all companies QC is not the same but even the $25.00 pump I picked just because it was $25 works fine for a lender so far. That one DID need a dissemble and lube when new as it felt ( and was) dry of lube.

The cheap Amazon China hand pump when on sale for $25 free ship currently priced under $50 free ship should be good enough and includes tools and rebuild kit.

The way I see it being rated to pump upto 4500 psi is likely going to last awhile pumping only to 3000 psi which majority of ny PcP guns maximum rated pressure.

There are videos for easy rebuild on YouTube.

If you rather pay more for a hand pump then the made in England Hill MK5 with dry air system $219 from AoA they list their description with a limited Life time warranty or if you want to pay more $249 at PA and only have a limited 5 year warranty.

Just noticed Weihrauch guns at PA have 1 year warranty and AoAs got Life time warranty.
