HW/Weihrauch Plug Screw Availability

Back in the day, Weihrauch furnished simple flush-fitting blued grub screws for HW 55's, or other rifles sold sans breech-mounted sights. Robert Law's original Air RIfle Headquarters - who sold a lot of peep sights and scopes - offered brass ones, too. As r1lover mentioned, the thread is 5.0 x 0.5mm, and they are 4.5mm long.

Seems like a simple thing someone out there should sell (along with a better selection of photo-etched metal inserts for HW front sights!).

Ace hardware sells gun smith screws. I have had good results using their slotted blued grub screws that are slightly undersized. The threads are not the same but will thread in with very slight interference yet loosely enough not to damage the existing threads. I use a little red Locktite in the unthreaded front hole to retain the smaller screw in place. Sorry I don’t have the screw sizes I used. Not perfect, but cosmetically appealing.

Nicely done - this looks like the cleanest currently available option I have seen - I need to go see if my Ace has these!

I just received the black plastic 5mm plugs from Amazon. They are ridiculously cheap (300 for $9), and look terrific filling the two sight screw holes. I've upgraded four of my HW springers with them. I don't like the appearance of a third plug in the metal post holes, however. I'll either leave them open (not a bad look), or try Beeman 22's suggestion with the sunken Ace screws where the post used to be. In all, thanks for everyone's ingenuity on this.

You only need about 146 more Weihrauchs. 😁
