Air Venturi POI Shifting

I have a avenger in .177 cal and the POI keeps shifting on me. After the rifle has sat for a couple of days the POI has shifted down about 1 inch at 30 yds. I can zero it and it will shoot just fine. If I let the rifle sit for a couple of hours the POI will move up about an inch. I have used 2 different scopes with different mounts with the same problem. What can I do to fix this problem???

Thanks
Mike

If you never, and I mean never, let your barrel touch anything it most likely won't come to life and wander on its own. It may sound like I am joking, but I am not. These airguns are delicate, especially the cheaper ones, and can't take the barrels being touched or used for leaning against the wall, lifted by, or rested on a gun rack, or kept in a soft case. Unless, you do something that seriously sets things solid, which can cause it's own problems too. I have a gen 1 Gauntlet that has only seen me holding it and the inside of a custom fitted gun case and it has never had a poi shift, since it was introduced and about 30k pellets through it. It is the nature of long free floated inexpensive barrel design to shift pretty easily if you are not careful. When you get tired of dealing with that you can always get an Edgun or an AAA. I don't have to baby my Paradigm. With all this said, my Gauntlet is super accurate, and I still like shooting it for that reason. The Avenger I have shot is incredibly accurate too, just don't handle it like a firearm.

My solution was a little unorthodox.
Since I use mine to hunt, it gets banged around, leaned up against trees, where it sometimes falls over....I needed to add stability.
First step was the Donny FL barrel shroud adapter. Then I used a barrel band from Black Arts Design in addition to the factory one to stabilize the barrel/tube combo. It worked but once I got the second one it completely stabilized the shroud from moving.
I can still move my POI if it gets hit real hard but it takes more than it will usually see from hunting.
The end result was a rifle I can grab and depend on like my trusty old .22lr.

Thanks for that. I’m bad about leaning the gun against something. Never dawned on me it might put the barrel out of alignment.

Hi Mspaet,
It Is the exact problem with the Avenger.
You can dial in your scope and start shooting through one hole on the target and be amazed about the accuracy vs. Price......
Then next set of a benchrest target and start shooting the 25 individual targets and it is all over the place - and you start pull your hair out.
Then it even worse if you carry it around and starts to shoot again.

I designed a new front stock for my Avenger to overcome this.
I also rebuild the trigger.
1. to get the geometry better- the trigger was too far away and i could only reach the trigger with the tip of the finger.
2. to get the trigger light and crisp and with equal pull for each shot.

And I did several more changes to improve the accuracy.

Search the Avenger threads in here and you will find more information.
