Howdy all -

I am currently fooling around with a Crosman Shockwave…trying to get it to perform close to my expectations of a projectile firing arm. However, after some digging, and research, a Weirauch is kind of more what I am after. I like the Diana’s, it don’t honesty require that power. I’m looking for a 25y hole puncher and group maker. Weirhauch seems to be the answer around here.

An HW80SL is under $500 shipped to my door at the moment….trying to not just buy it. I will likely pursue it soon though…I have a new breach seal coming for the Crosman, some cleaning pellets, a couple different flavors of .22, and some shimming to do to the rear of my scope to see if there is any hope for this Wally World special.

Thanks for any input y’all can think of!

Hey Brent,
Everyone has their own idea of what U want. Ask yourself, "How much power do I need?"
- You say the Diana power is not needed, but the HW80 IS the definition of Diana power!

If you want just a 25 yard shooter - the HW30S will do. I prefer at least the HW50S ...
The highest power I would recommend is a HW35E or HW95 ...
My opinion takes into account gun manageability, which IMO the HW80 isn't great at providing.

More to life then punching paper at 25 yards.. with that 80 you have a gun that keeps you in the more to part ( and still punches paper at 25 yards)..

Under 500$ usd to your door... Aint bad ,, heck a hw95lex or r9 is 450-500$ .lol. Seems worth it to me to try for the 80..

id enjoy it at 10m or 50 yards all day .. then thats just me 😉

Good luck..

The 80 or 95 in 22 are awesome rifles and don’t have a problem punching paper with them. I have other rifles in the hw50 and hw30 class but I’m biased because I’m mostly a small game hunter. Can’t go wrong with any of the other previously mentioned rifles. Pick one and enjoy but the 80 and 95 covers everything.

The HW95 is what I consider the “sweet spot” in the Weihrauch lineup. It’s a bit heavier than the HW50 and a bit lighter than the HW80. Not to much (weight and power) for a paper puncher and not to little for a small game hunter. It also does not have the split linkage in the cocking lever that the 30 and 50 have and can prove troublesome. I’ve had to many HW80’s over the decades and never enjoyed the weight to power ratio. The 95 has the correct balance.

Howdy everyone!

Thank y’all for the replies! I went over each one and then researched individual models mentioned. Yeah y’all are maaaybe right at the moment I’m not needing the 80, if anything needs “got” at that distance, the CZ-452 will come out.

I’m thinking I’m leaning towards the 50 in .22

It’s presently out of stock, which might be a blessing. Give me sometime to think on it.

And continue tinkering with my Crosman. If anyone has any input on that beast, I have a thread in PCP about it. Errantly placed in the wrong category, asked mods to move it.

Thanks!

Yeah BofG,
I keep changing my Weihrauch sweet spot between HW35E, HW50S and HW95, R9 & R10, but mostly it's HW50S :) .

I ordered a .177 HW80 last Monday from Krale and had it in my hands Thursday afternoon.

I must have received one of the last of the original HW80's with standard stock. The SL model was all they listed the next day. I'm really glad I got the old school stock.

The gun just rocks. Shoots like at rocket launcher.
Ohler Chronograph shows:
CPHP 7.9's at 1031fps @ 18.65fpe
JSB Exact 8.4's at 997 @ 18.63fpe
Baracuda FT's at 914fps @ 17.76fpe

I currently have three other Weihracuch's,
HW77 .177 Laser +
HW77K .177 Laser
HW35E .177 Smooth smooth shooter
HW50S .22 (sold)

and now the HW80 .177

Shooting open sights at 20 yds with CPHP's has been a blast. A lot of less then 1" groups and several 1/2" groups, and one squirrel DRT. ;-) SWFA Scope is on the way.

Yes, it has some twang, but not bad, and a really fast shot cycle. I can see why so many folks love this air rifle.

Get one!!!

Cheers

You may have just sold me on one

Yeah Zut,
Last Wednesday, I changed my (2+ month) outstanding - HW35E order for the newer, HW80SL. By Friday, they were already sold out of the same .177 caliber.
They haven't shipped it yet (supposed to be shipped today), so hoping I don't have to start the waiting game again .....

If it turns out, Krale doesn't have the gun to ship, I'm going to cancel and buy a FWB Sport from AoA.

Lastly, I was one of the first to start buying from Krale back in early 2016, between higher demand and Weihrauch's supply issues, it's really hard to get one from Krale now ..............:p

Interesting, they had the original 80's in stock for at least a month or more. I've been hemming and hawing over one for quiet a while. I'm glad I pulled the lever when I did. Sorry you're having so much trouble. I have purchased three rifles from Krale and one from Mundilar. All have been great.

I believe the FWB Sport is no longer being produced. AoA must have a few left. I think there was a Sport on the classified adds adds yesterday too. Have you watched Pellets and Piston Airguns youtube videos on the Sport. He loves it but had to tune it to make it a shooter. Cool gun.

I just looked at AoA and they still have the 80 in stock in all calibers including .20.

Those are good numbers for an HW80. That means you got a good one.
