Thoughts on these ? Alot of guns don't like em ,why??are they the better pellet for hunting?and why did they stop at a low caliber I've heard the legends of the predator polymag 50 cal lol.
Umm, a .35 cal polymag si not low caliber lol. But also, you'd need a LOT of velocity to make them work correctly in higher calibers. In .177, .22 and .25 the tips separate while aiding in expansion almost like a slug. As you approach .30 and .35, expansion isn't as noticeable and you're better off just shooting slugs. Polymags have a relatively low BC

These are specialized pellets. Low penetration with high energy dump. Limited accuracy. I personally would max to 40-50 yards with them, although, I have yet to test them. As for 35-50 cal versions, why? Shooting that big a caliber, I'd believe one would want a slug for both accuracy and power for ensuring an ethical kill. Only benefit of a big caliber polymag is a shorter range shot on a bird that has a low density body and hollow bones, or a ground animal body shot so as minimize pass through and risk down range of said target.

@mikey fingers This is a topic that you can search and come up with A LOT of information on in the forums. Type “polymags” in the search box, then click the cog to the right of the search box, and check the “search titles only” box and marvel at the number of threads that populate.

I have, without really rigorous testing, always seen these as gimmicks. Limited testing has shown WC to be equally or more effective on rats to 25yds. The only thing that gives me pause is that in a rather extensive collection of 0.20 springers, they are surprisingly accurate.

But in .177 and .22 they have never been leading in accuracy.

Aren't you limited to like 30yds with wadcutter though? I can shoot polymags accurately in little wind out to 70yds with the stoeger xm1 .25

WC are definitely limited in range. I have not had a great experience in most of my guns with accuracy in the polymags. I have some target hangers that place a paper target in front of the backstop and usually find the little red penetrator has come off the hollow point after just passing through the paper. It took no real stress to dislodge it and I am skeptical that that is doing much for terminal performance. I think that the red point is sorta like paint on a fishing lure, there to catch the wallet.

These were all shot with a .22 Polymag at 935fps. 30 to 70 yards. There is nothing gimmicky about them if you do your homework. To save some homework I’ll tell you a choked CZ will shoot them great in .22 and .25. I push their speed testing at 50 yards until the train goes off the tracks. Then I see if I can fine tune them at 75. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can’t.

My Taipan likes them too! 25 cal is great for attitude adjustment with pests.
