Portable Shooting Bench

I like your design based upon folding saw horses. It seems like the base would be sturdy.

I used to use the first one which is much more easily portable. The basic idea is 3/4 water pipe legs screw into pipe flanges on the bottom side of a 3/4 plywood top. There are short sections of PVC pipe on the underside for the legs to snap into for transportation. I've shot a lot of this bench and it works well. But the 3/4 plywood top is somewhat flexible and the legs being attached only at the top also permits some flex. The last picture is my current bench. It has a 1.5 inch softwood top glued up out of 2x6 pieces. Legs are laminated 2x4s. It does not disassemble easily and even if I take the top off the legs do not detach from the stretcher. It is all mortise and tenoned together. The new one weighs about 40 lbs so about twice what the first one weighs. It is noticably more solid.

Finally got mine finished. Had to change gears when I received my 48"x30" acacia butcher block cracked right down the center. I ended up using what I had laying around, just had to purchase some heavy duty round base T-nuts. Everything is glued and screwed and the top can easily be removed with the 1/4-20's. Rock solid.

Built one similar to this using this $25 Harbor Freight sawhorse. Found a 19x36 a piece of scrap OSB in my garage. Couple minutes with the jigsaw and some nuts and bolts from my miscellaneous hardware bin and I had the first revision shown below.

Just shot a few pellets to test it out since it was super cold outside, but it worked well enough that I’ll spend a few bucks on a nicer piece of plywood and finish it up pretty.

Also upgraded my folded up old Sesame Street blanket to an actual shooting bag (filled it for free with plastic molding pellets from work). The seat is also portable and has built-in storage!

I have shot from many platforms over the decades blasting away with mostly Firearms. At the range, mostly very solid Concrete Benches and Benches made of Steel, however I do not like the Steel they can become resonate and vibrate too much. I have shot over Pickup Hoods, Branches, Logs you name it. I built a semi-portable shooting bench many moons ago, its seen better days. I have been shooting Pump Pellet Rifles for sometime but, never really needed a portable rest until I got into the PCP arena and wanted precise results.

So, wanting to replace the old relic that had seen-better-days, I decided to build a Portable Shooting Bench. One that was solid, stable and did not require a Hand-Truck to move it from the Pickup to the shooting location. I wanted folding legs and a bench that was large enough to clutter it's top. This specimen is a bit on the husky side but, that is ok because it is very solid and stable.

I had some flat lumber lying around the garage and found a Portable Sawhorse Online with adjustable legs and that folded up into a neat package. I still have some final work, like trim, an oval hole-handle for carrying and some stain for the wood. I took it out the other day to try it out and do a little Photo-Shoot. I was just what I needed.

Oh! The Charging-Tank... does not remain there, only for the photo-effect.

Thank you for the idea! Nice finish on the Marauder too.
