Tuning Post your Leshiy 2 tunes

Just got home from my shooting club. I have not changed anything from last time but the numbers are slightly off, I think I am going to leave it here.

350mm .22

104 bar – original Edgun Reg (non EAR)

0.7 and 0.5 jets (drilled one 0.3 jet to 0.7)

16 grain AA Field

Avg=886 fps; Hi=898; Low=870 (this where started dropping of the Reg)

Spread=28.0 (explaining next below); STD Dev=6.8; Shot counts=73, a full 9 mags in a single fill before fall from Reg.

The Spread is most likely coming from my rapid shooting testing, I sighted in @ 20, tested the reticle @60 and @80 yards.

Somewhere there in between I shot one full mag with less then 1 seconds interval between shots and the speed drop all the way down to 845. All the rest of the 60+ shots were more then 4 seconds interval around 880ish speed.

What impressed me that a POI group dropped from 20y to 60y is exactly 1 MIL, and a drop from 20 to 80 is about 2.5 MILs (in between two dots @80 cannot really say that is accurate enough on paper ring). I have the Streloc Pro but I did not had a chance to setup my scope there yet, what I have is a real life data.

I know that not the Leshiy2 and not my IO 14x50 scope are not a target setup so I didn't put my expectations too high up, but the 350 barrel performed really well.

I think I will leave the jets and the Reg as is for now.

That seems like a pretty good tune BigHun. I do find the light weight of the front end make this rifle harder to keep on target than a heavier rifle. I’m not complaining , much easier on my old bones and tendons. I did take a partridge yesterday at what I estimate to be close to 60 yards. My buddy bet me a box of beer that I would t hit it . Even more impressive is that I hit it right in the head. I love this rifle and 3x Prism sight combo.

I have a 350 barrel, it is making the L2 nice compact size, this what I was waiting for and ready to pay for it.

I would eventually take a lill longer 450 barrel but that means I would need to take the gun apart would not fit in my case.

I have also a longer 700mm spare STX-A liner that will most likely just retire deep in my closet, It really doesn't make a sense to me to build a - one more - long air rifle again.

I already have a PP750 converted from 8" barrel to 22" long barrel sub-compact (you remember that barrel? came from your hands ;) ) and built that franken gun to guard my walnut threes.

The Leshiy2 is for my gun club only, I am using it at LR22 range for silhouettes training. And that is fun. Only a reloading many times drives me nuts. But I will work on that one this winter, unless Edd figures something out faster.

Are you running a bottle for those shot numbers? Or is that stock tube?

Just started to futz around with mine.

Non - REPR with 350 mm barrel, 300cc bottle upgrade. Running a DFL Emperor on it for back yard stealth.

Mine came in .25 cal and stock was making decent power with 34gr JSB MKII at about 800 fps. Accuracy was ok with pellets, not spectacular. Accuracy with the JSB knock out slugs, however was amazing.

I decided to swap out to .30 cal 350mm barrel. The 44gr JSB were average accurate, but slower of course, bout 700 fps. The 50gr JSB were lumbering along at about 650 fps, but and also meh in the accuracy dept.

So, I swapped the jets to both at 0.2mm, and increased the reg pressure to 145 bar.

It really opened her up in the power. Now 50 gr JSB are whizzing along at 849 fps ave, for a very respectable 80 ft-lbs. (10 shot group, spread 12, std dev 3.8). The accuracy of the 50gr also remarkably improved to basically one hole groups at 47 yrds. With a 300 bar fill, I am getting 36 shots/fill, or about 4.2 bar/shot.

I did try slugs at this tune, but the accuracy of all I tried was marginal at best, and some like the NSA's were buckshot. Def not a slug tune.

Overall I am pretty impressed, especially with the 50gr pellets. I don't know if bit more jet swapping might improve the efficiency a tad or not. I will hopefully get to take it to 100 yrds before the weather turns ugly.

Anyone else playing with a .30 cal?

I did kind of a funny tune for .30. Dual 1.2mm jets got me 600fps with a 700mm and 550 with a 500mm barrel. Well below 100 bar on the reg. 70-80 if I had to guess.

Then turned up the reg 15 bar and got 750fps with 45gr pellets and 700mm barrel. Got over 100 shots like this yesterday with the 350cc bottle (300 to 100 bar). Turned up the reg another 20 bar and it's only 780fps, so I've reached the limit of the 1.2mm jets I guess.

Next time it's open I'll put in a 1mm and a .9 maybe. Hopefully that will get me close to 900fps with the 700mm at the same reg pressure.

I’m really happy with my change to the FX barrel. Mine was originally a .25 350mm LW barrel, and I switched to the 600mm FX barrel. No other changes whatsoever. These were the results:

JSB 25.4 grain

FPS

High Low Avg Ft Lbs ES SD

900 884 891 44.8 1.8% 5.8 [350mm 07/10/21]

1000 988 990 55.3 1.2% 3.4 [600mm FX10/14/21]

FX 34 grain

FPS

High Low Avg Ft Lbs ES SD

793 782 789 47.0 1.4% 3.9 [350mm 07/10/21]

898 881 888 59.5 1.9% 4.4 [600mm FX 10/31/21]

I have a .30 cal 350mm barrel and a couple of mags coming (I picked these up in the Classifieds recently). Given that i also have a spare 600mm .30 cal FX STX barrel lying around I’m looking forward to seeing what it will do with that. Obviously I’ll have to change the jets and reg pressure, but that sounds like a fun project for the cold winter days ahead.

Now i have only one question. Has anyone tried fitting a FX 480cc bottle on their L2? I’m thinking I may need a slighly extended plenum (or to finally get my REPR upgrade from Brian).

Well that was a quick job. I took the lower tube , cut some material off to get the OD to the right size ( 21.8mm) then cut two oring groves to seal it up. Had to drill the air transfer hole 1mm between the orings . Wrap the tube with matching vinyl and install the 480cc Evanix bottle I had. This gives the gun 1.25” longer length but pretty close to an extra 150cc of air. I’m going to have to do something about my optic and try to get it further back as the eye relief is 2.5” so it’s a bit of a neck stretcher. Worthwhile mod for the guys with access to a lathe. Here it is folded. No extra length.

Looks great. I don’t have a lathe, but i know there is an increased length plenum available that migh just get me the distance I need.

I got the sight mounted as far back as possible by heating the release lever and flattening the top portion where it was coming in contact with the scope mount. That gained me about 1/2” further back. I find it more comfortable with this extended tube with the LOP at about 15” . I’ll need to do some unrested shooting with it just to be sure. I’m sure it’s going to be staying in this configuration.

A 15” LOP isn’t too bad at all, given that you seem to have solved the eye relief issue. I’m definitely going down this road!

Here's a tune I'm quite happy with.

.22 600mm Alfa Precision barrel. REPR reg, 0.3mm/0.5mm nozzles. Reg @ 55 bar getting 800 fps with JSB 18gr. Approx 200 shots from 250 bar down to 55.

Well now, maybe I’ve been going about this the wrong way. Looks like you’re onto something with the low regulator pressure. Lots of shots for sure. How’s the consistency when set up like this?

The 600mm barrel makes a huge difference over the 350mm. I can also crank the reg up to 160 bar and get 65 fpe out of the .22 25gr redesigns but then I'm only getting about 4 mags worth per fill.

The 18s will be doing about 900fps with the reg up to 70 bar. And it's all very consistent. I'd say with cleaned and lubed, but not weight sorted, pellets a string within 5-6 fps is attainable.
