Preparation for WFTC 2021

Thanks to both Scotts. A member of our group may be interested in making the 3D printed target checker. Buckwheat hulls work well as a bag filler but we need something cheaper. The filler would be for shooters coming by air packing an empty cushion. Upon arrival get it filled, use it for the tournament then dump the contents (biodegradable) before flying home. So the filler would only be in use for a week. Would rice or chopped up corn cob work here?

I haven’t been following the blog but the current plan is to manufacture and use a target designed by Pete Brooks. Pete is an engineer. He developed some prototypes that we examined this past weekend and all I can say is these are the finest targets that any of us have ever seen. Stainless steel, brass bushings, no “e” clips, smooth, reliable and solid. Pete has the production logistics worked out and production will start after a chance for some exhaustive testing this summer. This Is all being done with the goal of “0” target failures in mind. More information about the targets including pictures will be on the website soon. Uj

Uglyjohn,

I would contact Greg Sauve, the USA representative for WFTF, and find out if this is even a feasible option. WFTF rules state that whoever is going to run a WFTF World Championship, MUST use targets that have been approved by the WFTF board. I believe that there are only two manufacturers that have WFTF approval.

Pete Brooks is an outstanding shooter, and engineer for mechanical stuff, particularly with our sport in mind. I've shot with him many times, and his attention to detail is second to none. There is no doubt in my mind, that if you needed to find a better mousetrap to be created, Pete's the guy.

That being said, I think this needs to be inquired about upon the international level. Even if Pete's design is the best performing Field Target that one can find, it still needs WFTF approval. It would be a shame for everyone, especially Pete, to go through the expense and time to create a perfect Field Target, and many of them at that, only not to be approved by the WFTF in the long run.

Just a thought before everyone gets into gear making these targets.
