Preventing a Moderator From Sticking To Moderator Adaptor

Does anyone have any tips on how to prevent a moderator from binding to the adapter? This is an issue for me with some Donny FL endcaps. When I go to unscrew them, sometimes it comes off with the adapter. It doesn't feel like I'm wrenching down on them when I affix the moderators and the adapters are hand tightened. I currently have one that is very difficult to separate from a knurled adapter by hand, but both come off the gun together.

I use this on threads and high friction areas

Tighten the adapter to the gun firmly, perhaps even with a little anti-seize compound like copper coat. Then using the same anti-seize on the moderator threads, just hand tighten.

On my Two i just gave up and the Adaptor and moderator are now one.
Also. My case are so small not really room for the adaptor on the barrel.

This is the old Finnish made powder burner moderator, but i have my Huma one which i then swap around between other rifles.

The issue is the same when i put a moderator on my Cyclone, the piece that cover the smooth twisted part of the barrel have a tendency to want to come off too.

I too use something similar to the Pro-Shot product.
It's called STOS, which stands for Slicker Than Owl Sh!t. It was used to lubricate reloading machines and IS THAT SLICK!

The other suggestion of using anti-seize, while good is messy. And using Silicone on threads is not a good idea, they usually seize up.

@Revoman Thanks. I was thinking of using powdered graphite or molly paste on the threads between the moderator and adaptor. I'm aware of not using silicone for metal-to-metal.

You have already received good advice from everyone. I use adapter/brakes on my threaded PB's which mate to my suppressors. Same problem. Clean threads on barrel, clean adapter, tighten very well(I actually use a torque wrench so it is the same every time). Lube threads on adapter that go into moderator, hand tighten firmly. They should never stay together when removing again. Just make sure the lube is light and doesn't affect alignment. If using antisieze and the threads are very well cut with tight tolerances, you have to use an extremely minimal amount of antisieze to avoid affecting alignment. I use antisieze and put almost none one, screw suppressor on, take off, clean dry cloth wipe off threads so you can't hardly tell anything is on it , then mount suppressor.

My uragan does the same with the shroud and extra moderator(no adapter, built in the shroud) that comes with it, both come off together every time, but I don't care. The 3 or 4 times I've pulled off the moderator, I needed the shroud off anyway.

@Gerry52 Funny you should mention that. It was also a thought. Did you use a regular Nitrile Buna 70 oring?
Yeah, I did. The benefits I got were no "sticking" to adapter, no loosening of moderator due to vibration, improved alignment and I don't have to cinch it down very tightly. It just holds. I'm using a DFL Ronin (.30) on my Boss but have o-rings on all 3 of my gun's adapters should I need to use the Donny.

After applying some molly paste to the threads, I think using an o-ring between the moderator and the moderator adapter is probably some of the best advice. Thank you @Gerry52.

An o-ring will potentially disrupt alignement unless it is inside the joint (o-ring on a smooth part of the barrel / adapter, interfacing with a smooth internal surface. Threads provide only course alignment. Real alignment of a moderator (or anything else) is achieved by screwing up to an accurate shoulder (or in other applications, over a portion of the receiving end that is smooth and mates to a corresponding smooth surface on the "nut".

Yes, much of the time thread alignment alone will be adequate, but it's a roll of the dice.
