product unavailability may have been a blessing in disguise

We all have had to deal with this shipping crisis for quite some time now. More than a year ago I had put a few springers on wish list and to be notified when in stock etc.Well the good news is I've learned something... I really didn't need or better yet actually, want them. Even though new stock of the models I was waiting on still haven't arrived I have had opportunities to purchase refurbished models for two of them. The price was right and the guns were in very good condition. A year ago I would have pushed that buy button in a heartbeat, but I didn't. Turns out I'm quite happy with what I have... simple as that.

The economists would hate to hear that...The US economy is based on folks impulse buying as many of us do. Then later on we realize we didnt really need or want it. Many just get stacked in the corner or sold at a loss. Nature of the American consumer !!! As I have gotten older, I find myself taking more time to research the item I am looking for and frequently find I dont really need or want it. Sure wish I had realized this a a much earlier age, but then again I am sure I stimulated the economy enough to keep the manufacturing world moving right along !!!

i almost bought some guns but didn't because they were on "pre-order" or taking deposits without definite delivery dates. now i am glad i waited.

Waited a hella time for my Raptor. I will NEVER pre-order again.

As the op stated, I too, after waiting it out, have found what I wanted used and at a much better price point.

Hard to say it has saved anything on my end. I have taken advantage of higher used prices by selling guns and kit I wasn't using, but invested all of that and more in a smaller number of higher quality guns I have always wanted in the categories of shooting I enjoy most.

Also depleting the account is a budding vintage gun affliction. Started hitting the shops when my usual haunts went dry and found I really appreciate the old stuff. Fortunately it isn't something I will buy online so the spend is also limited by items on hand. There is a decent supply lately as used prices draw out sellers and (sadly) a growing number head to the gun range in the sky. As the families sort out the estate their prized guns end up tempting me.

I tell my treasurer that I am investing in the hard asset category of our portfolio. Holding up well vs. the market at the moment.
