What do folks use to protect their scopes from marks potentially made by the rings? Do you line the rings with (something)? Thanks.
Thank you. Could you enlighten me as to the proper tightening sequence? I am happy to learn from an expert such as yourself.Proper tightening sequence and gap space,or torque, are the best ways.I have put on hundreds of scopes that way, and they show no marks. Some cheaper rings come with a sort of black tape to protect the rings, which is a terrible thing in my opinion. Many things need the right tightening sequence. Tire rims are another, as are head bolts. It is all about learning the right way.
OK, so what would be the correct torque settings?a torque screwdriver
most people tighten scope rings WAY too tight!
Thank you for that, appreciate it.Most scope rings 16 to 18 inch pounds is good. I am a Burris Signature fan also, otherwise I add 1 piece of masking tape in the lower ring and scope will never slip inside the rings. I am 100 percent against lapping. Defies reasoning. So with good rings you manufacture to a proper fit. Now you ruin that tolerance. Dumb, dumb, dumb, stupid. My forever opinion.
Most good quality scope rings will have torque settings for the screws.OK, so what would be the correct torque settings?
Still loving that Dye job!Use Burris Signature rings. They have plastic inserts of varying thicknesses which cradle the scope and allows you to adjust scope angle and cant. The scope never touches the metal scope caps.
