We had another good turnout for our June FT event with a few new to PSA attendees. We continued our short 20 shot XFT option at this event, and a few shot XFT as well.
For AAFTA, the Blue course was on our range, as it usually is, and the Green and Red courses were located in the ravine next to the competition range. The ravine course had many uphill shots, which challenged shooters. Along with several uphill shots, some targets were shaded and tough to see depending the time of day you addressed the lane.
The 3 course average difficulty was 28.4 (Moderate) and the individual course sections had the following avg difficulties (not including environmental modifiers):

The XFT course was setup on our competition range, and consisted of 3 lanes with 2 shots per target with 10 targets. The first lane had 4 targets, and lanes 2 and 3 had 3 targets. 7 of the targets were killzone style targets, and 3 targets were knockdown style targets. 5 targets were placed beyond 70 yards with the farthest target being a knockdown style mountain lion at 102 yards. It's tough to state a difficulty when incorporating the knockdown style targets, but the average course difficulty is calculated as 36.0.
Scores for the 20 shot XFT course are (ties are not broken):
We are continuing to learn what is reasonable in XFT. This month's course was set mathematically hard, but didn't seem like any shots were impossible. Maybe this is because we haven't had a windy day, yet. We will continue to push the limits on the knockdown style targets in an attempt to understand when a specific target becomes difficult; currently we have these targets measured by width when supplied to the difficulty calculation, some are skinny and tall, while others are short and wide. The knockdown targets don't really fit into the calculation as nicely as circle KZs fit.
We hope to see everyone again at our next match July 9, 2023.
