pumping

I have a hill mk3. It seems to work fine but I am a springer shooter who's dabbling in pcps. Why does the pump feel heavy when pulling it upward? Is it supposed to feel that way? When pushing down nothing seems hard till like the last 2-3 inches. Is that normal? I do about 40 pumps and take a time out as to not over heat it. In pumping up a urban from about 1500psi to 3000psi and it takes about 120 strokes. Is that normal. Thanks in advance

It’s normal. These are multi stage pumps so you are moving and compressing air through each stage on both the up and down strokes.

I have a mk4 and yup up pull is stiff and last 3 inches are hard. But you have to overcome the air pressure in the tank. Nature of the beast. I primarily pump have learned a few things. It’s like lifting weights good form and deliberate movements, pause at top and pause at bottom. Let your mass do most of work also keep the pump lubed per it’s service manual I usually lube when it starts feeling gritty. 180lbs and can achieve 250 bar on my ed guns pretty easily. Go at a slower pace keeps heat build up lower

My Hill pamphlet says not to lube it much,it came with a whitish lube, like white grease, not heavy...l have thousands of pumps without lubing it.....try not to overheat it,funny it seems on overheating me!Just use it and yes it takes a lot of pumps to fill the Urban....and it will get easier to pump..I do 40pumps at a time, wait a few minutes and do 40 more....never had to do more than120 pumps on any of my PCPs.Oh btw I did install an outlet filter on it,I think can be important thing to do,don't sweat that either,$10 for the gold one on ebay....

I hate pumping:(

Tell me about it! Well, I take that back. I’d like to be able to pump exclusively, but my worn out shoulders and back won’t allow it, and being fused up there’s just no way. Duct tape a 2x4 to your back, vertically, and see how well that goes trying to pump a pcp, lol!

I like the idea of pumping because pcp ownership, well, that just comes with it. Can you imagine if the world came to an end- no power anywhere, no supplies. We’d all be back pumping by hand in order to shoot these things. Now, if I was 20 years old and still all about having a bicep’d out body, heck ya, pumping all the way.

Using a tank to fill, just makes me feel like an armchair quarterback, lol. Couch potato is more like it.
