purpose of gun?

I have both. I have a couple of match rifles that I set up specifically for competition, one in .308 for shooting out to 1000 yards, a built up 10/22 for rim fire steel matches and a Beeman in .177 bought specifically for indoor match shooting. I have several air guns and powderburners just for fun. I almost never hunt or deal with pest control. As long as I’m having fun I don’t need much else.

There’s a chipmunk! Let me grab my .177. Oh, no! There’s a woodchuck just a few steps further, better grab that .22. Is that a raccoon around my garbage can? Pull out the .25… Coyotes in the night? Get the .30… I’m not advocating for a single gun or caliber people, you just don’t need a gun for each pest or to plink or casually target shoot. If shooting competitively, across different disciplines? OK. The “purpose of the gun?” Is to be used… How so? Is up to the shooter.

Ultimately, that is the end goal. FUN! I couldn't agree more with all the respondents. The key is to understand which way suits you best.
