Qball Crosman 1701P build thread

I have a crazy wild hair idea to convert a 177 Benjamin Fortitude into a pistol just for the multi shot. I wonder if the Fortitude upper will bolt right onto the 1701P?

Another thought is to use a P-Rod and convert it into a 177 and 3d print the magazine for 177. Citrus Airguns used to convert to 177s but am unsure if they are still doing it. The Lothar Walter barrel will need that o-ring channel inside the barrel leade though.

There's also Exclusive in Thailand and not 100% sure if their side lever multi shot breech would work.

The Fortitude breech does not match the 1701P or 1720T air tubes due to different bolt locations.
The Prod breech will fit on a 1701P tube however. Has a SST installed in the picture but typically shoot with a magazine. The Williams WGRS 54 rear sight is tall enough to see over the magazine. Replace the peep sight with a notched blade. DonnyFL Benjamin adaptor and a threaded TKO keeps it backyard quiet and neighborhood friendly. Does 15-16 fpe for 16 shots. TKO is small enough in diameter to to block the iron sights which is my preferred way to shoot pistols.
the Prod and 1720T are pistols in name only IMO and I only shot them as carbines. I built the what I call the BP2202P to complement my Prod. I love the Crosman/Benjamin platform for its interchangeability.

There's roughly 2 inch difference between the P Rod vs 1701P barrel length (12" vs 10.1"). How can yours (P Rod barreled upper) be the same (without the barrel sticking out by the difference in their barrel length) with the 1701P air tube fill dust cap?

I know the 1701P barrel is shorter than the air tube filler cap but not by almost 2 inches barrel difference.

I bought a used Prod to start with and bought a 1701P tube from Crosman. I should have had Mountain Air Custom Airguns cut my Prod barrel and redo the breech. Roy said he would do the barrel mods for $80 plus shipping costs to ship it back to me, but I cheaped out and I cut the Prod barrel myself and recrowned it DYI with a brass screw. So as a result I looped off the choke. It still shoots just fine with JSB pellets but if I were to did it again I would have had the barrel redone from the breech end to retain the choke. Originally I tried to emulate Fuzzygrub's pistol and retain the shroud so it looked like this but I was having issues with it. I cut the Prod shroud and re-tapped it myself and I cut the front of the AS down to keep the shroud centered with the barrel. The shroud does ntohing but provide a place to mount the ramp sight. I was using a Prod DonnyFl adaptor. It shot just fine with out the TKO that way but it is very loud with out it. However with the TKO it shot to the left about 1.5" at just 10 feet!😲 Got real frustrated with it and could never figure it out what was causing this. So I decided I'd cut my losses and removed the shroud altogether and tried the Benjamin adaptor and it works great with or without the TKO now. It looked cooler with the shroud IMO but something was wrong with the shroud setup. oh well.

By the way I will never buy any thing from Exclusive Shop again. I bought their side lever breech for the PRod. He shipping it in a thinly padded envelope. tossed in small deflated piece of bubble wrap I guess for good measure. It arrived with a good ding in the front corner of the breech. the side lever is very sloppy and the pivot pin backs out a touch and it gets hung up when you go to close it. Pretty disappointed with it to be frank. I sent him a picture of it as soon as I opened the package. I got a response a day later and said it was all good when he shipped it. Doesn't seem concerned what so ever that I'm not happy with it.

+1 on Vernon Austin grips. I have 4 sets. Never had Steve Corcoran grips but heard good things. I have a set of DB Webb grips on a 2300KT and they are pretty nice too. FYI every time I ordered from Veron he always said he’s backed up. He’s lead time will vary depending what laminate or wood you order and what he has in stock. Always got my orders in about 6 weeks or so.

I would roll that CF shroud on a smooth surface to see if its perfect and even if it is or not I would index it 180 degrees see if you still hitting left and if so then index the inner end air stripper 180 degrees too and see what happens. Might be baffle clippage too. Could possibly be the barrel band too try removing it.

Oh, so they do have the same internals!

I was quite surprised when I checked this morning and found out that they have the very same valve--same part number(s).

Rang Crosman today to buy assorted parts but no one seems to be attending the phones 😁

Will be buying a 1700/1701P tube for my PROD, so I don't have to use a shroud, which I ordered 3 weeks ago from Crosman but, amongst parts, has not arrived yet.

Personally, I prefer a "bare barrel" look.

Sorry got swamped at work. Yes all the Prod internals are the same and drop right in the 1701P tube no problem. It’s a fun pistol. It does get loud though. Keep us up to date on your build.

Yeah I tried several of those ideas. The shroud is actually the original aluminum Prod shroud that I cut to length and I re-tapped it on the muzzle end with a vinyl wrap giving it the CF look. With or without barrel band made no discernible difference. I did roll the shroud and barrel on a flat surface. They are both straight. indexing the shroud wasn’t an option because I already had the front sight mounted before discovering the problem.
I do think it’s a combination of the modified air stripper, and possibly the threads I tapped in the shroud and the DonnyFL Prod adaptor actually. I think I might have gone just a little too deep with my threads in the shroud and the oring on the AS were right at the end of the threads. Could be that my threads aren’t quite square with the shroud so the adaptor wasn’t square. I don’t know. I don’t have a lathe and never used one before. I used a tap to thread the shroud so it’s likely I didn’t get this 100% right. Whatever it is it just didn’t work.

I just got too frustrated with it to order new parts to retry it again. Really didn’t want to invest all that much more into it either and possibly screw up on the retry either. Eliminating the shroud and using the DonnyFL Benjamin adaptor was just way simpler, probably cheaper in the end and was far less time consuming and frustrating when it was all said and done. I like my pistol. It’s not as accurate as my 1701P but it wasn’t meant to be. 🙂

MHA sir, thank you for the confirmation 😁

Mr. Qball, you have made the right choice 😁

The 1701P's LW barrel in itself is already a step above the PP800, plus the parts back-up from Crosman as well as the aftermarket parts for it is infinite.

Quite frankly, I never did like the PP's looks.

I am getting one (1701P), too, when Crosman has them in stock, as I am not in a hurry to get one.

For whatever reason, AMAZON (got PRIME) does not ship airguns to Abq., NM 😏

Funny but I have already talked to several AMAZON Support agents and was advised that shipping to my end is restricted.

Ebay (Martinhood) has them for around $360, which I sent an offer to for $335 maximum but it was a "no go."

I will make mine into a carbine, as I am not really fond of air pistols.

I am thinking of putting it on a Boyd's Barracuda or Evolution stock (gauge will align with the stock's hole unlike the PROD/1720T).

A silver Magnum Airpower DISCO trigger assembly is on its way to me for this build--they are expensive and a little over $150 if equipped with a stainless trigger like what I specified but I am kind of worried that MAP (Mr. William B) will eventually stop producing them.

Will have it nickel boron plated, too, like some of my custom parts.

Yes, I hate plastic parts 😁

Kindly show pics when you get yours, Mr. Qball!

P.S. Plus one on VA''s grips. Have a couple of his laminates and the fit and and finish are outlandish!

It will be here today so waiting impatiently here. Also ordered Donnyfl 7/16 slip on adapter which should be here Tuesday then Huggett atom and belita moderators. I hope the atom will be quiet enough at 6fpe, it is only 89mm and 71 grams or 3.5 inches and 2.5 oz.

question: I have a cheap 2-7x handgun scope from amazon and it works good enough at 15 yards. Any good budget handgun or long eye relief scope I should try?

She is here!!!

put on my cheap scope and zeroed her in and zero issue with single hole at 15 yards which about as effective as the little scope is on a house sparrow. Chrono it and with 7.9 grain CPHP pellets I got 450fps which is actually a little faster than expected. If I can squeeze out 100fps more then I might now do any other upgrades to it. So far really liking the balance and the weight even with a scope. Even with out moderator it’s almost backyard friendly so with a little Atom it probably will be mouse fart quiet.

thanks for all the information and tips from everyone! Can’t wait till my moderator gets here and honestly I don’t see much I will do beside a little more speed finding a cool looking grip. Maybe a red and black laminate like Leshiy 2 grip.

Will a Maximus upper bolt onto a Prod or 1701? With the long barrel and air tube it would have to be used as a carbine but with a AR stock adapter it could be a mini single shot Armada. Also the 2000 psi fill makes it very easy to fill.

No sir the Maximus breech is completely different from the breech on the Prod/1720T/1701P. Different bolt patterns.
if you really wanted a short tube for a Maximus Don Cothran could probably do it for you but 2000 psi in such a short tube would be severely limiting in shot count.

Why not just put the AR style stock on your Maximus?
The bottom one is a Disco. No not entirely like a Maximus but the tube end cap is the same. I actually have that exact same stock that’s on that Disco and don’t use it and I’d sell it to you if you’re interested. PM me if you are
