Question about filling Omega tank with my Air Venturi for my Crown

Hi guys,

So I bought the 4500 PSI Air Venturi compressor today because I was done with searching for places to fill my tank with only 3000 -3500 PSI, nowhere close to the 4500 PSI.

My question is, after I fill my Omega tank to 4500 PSI from my Air Venturi compressor why can I not fill the Crown to 250 bar? it only fills to about 235-240 bar.

Does your Omega tank have 2 gauges? One gauge that indicates the pressure in the tank and another gauge -- on my tank this is the larger gauge -- that shows the pressure in the gun's cylinder.

I would be satisfied with 240 bar in my guns' cylinder if the gun's recommended max pressure is 250 bar. I do notice that I'm only able to get about 5 to 7 fills of 250 bar from my 75 cu ft tank after a 4500 psi fill. After that, if I desire 250 bar or greater fill for any gun I connect the gun directly to the Air Venturi compressor. The compressor has a safety feature that allows automatic shut-off at a preset pressure.

2 things:

First off, I'd suggest that you might consider a larger SCBA tank that gives you more volume. That is more air, with 2 gauges. Joe Brancato @ http://www.airtanksforsale.com may be able to help you in that department.

2nd: FX gauges -- and I currently own 5 FX rifles -- are notoriously inaccurate. And I have no idea how FX USA could tell over the phone if your gauges are accurate.

* I've changed all my FX gauges to either EDgun digital and Wika analogue for increased accuracy.

Good luck with your FX Crown. I love my FX rifles.

so.....I just checked my Omega tanks single gauge very closely by using the supplied plug and opening the valve. It went to 3500 PSI which equals precisely 241.31 bar, so it appears the Crowns gauge is pretty spot on....right guys?

That's great. Sounds like you're good to go.

I, too, have the 18 cu ft "Guppy bottle". I bought it with my very first PCP. For convenience, I've gone to the 75 cu ft SCBA tank. This gives me more 250 bar fills. The smaller tank is more portable for use at the range.

I have tried 3 different company's gauges and found all 3 have had inconsistency's FX, HUMA and WIKA. I know this by comparing them to my gauge on mt scuba/fill tank which i had tested and also sent the gauges back to the manufactures who confirmed they were off. I presently have 1 FX on the bottle and 1 WIKA on the reg on my IMPACT that have true readings.

CP1, I read your 2 posts. In the second one you used the plug to check your tanks stored pressure. If it went to 3500psi and you filled your crown and it went to about 240 BAR on the gauge, everything is pretty close gauge wise.

What I didn't understand in your 1st post you said you filled the tank to 4500 psi, then could only fill the crown to 3500 psi (240 BAR)? If there was 4500 psi in the tank you should keep a close eye on the gauge on the crown so as to not overfill it, but there should be no reason why you could not fill it above 240 BAR.

Be aware, if you fill your gun to 250 BAR mine usually drops to 240 BAR shortly after when things cool down. You could top it off again at 250 if you wanted to and it will stay there.

The tank is too small. There is a balance point where the pressure drops to the 240 level in the Crown and the source tank. Only choice is fill the Crown sooner, at a higher low pressure to get to the 250 level or get a bigger tank. I have the same situation with a 44 cf tank and and 4200# fills. We are finding this to be the case with the newer high volume tank guns and the small to medium size fill tanks. That is why I ordered a 12volt pump.
