Question for FX Dreamline Classic in .177 owners (USA)

Considering purchase of a Dreamline Classic in .177 for use in Hunter-Field Target events under AAFTA rules. As all know, this category is reserved for rifles shooting close to but not exceeding 20FPE at distances between 10 and 55YDS. Have not been able to find out any information how this airgun performs in this category or others. Anybody out there using this platform to compete in H-FT? How accurate is it at relatively high speeds (850-915FPS with JSB/AA 10.3s or similar)? How does it perform when compared to AA 400s & EVs, DS Mk 4s, HW 100s? Any information, good and not so good, is appreciated.

I posted a similar question about a year ago here: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/dreamline-for-hunter-division-field-target-opinions-wanted/?view=all#post-680147

But since then I have competed at 2 FT matches with an individual using a .177 Dreamline with a Saber Tactical Stock, this one https://utahairguns.com/fx-dreamline-saber-tactical-chassis-airgun/. He was a fairly new shooter and did pretty well the first meet and not so good the second meet. Not sure what the issue was onnhis 2nd meet, guessing something on his gun went out of whack. Looking at AGN’s member Joe Kool’s posts showing his groups with his .177 Dreamline Classic leads me to believe they are accurate enough for field target.

I was looking at one of these as well, but in the Aeron CZ FT chassis for starting out. I can’t seem to find much positive info on the .177 barrels. I’m stationed over seas right now, but I think maybe a call to Justin at Utah Airguns might help since they sell that one. Maybe they have shot the newer .177 barrels and could shed some light for you.

The barrel isn't going to be the main issue. All the many, little parts effected by temp shifts will likely cause poi shifts. As dissimilar materials move around and against eachother poi shifts will occur. The more complicated the gun(more bits between the air reservoir and barrel), the less likely you are to maintain a consistent poi in relation to your poa. This is one of the main factors in scope shift.

Anyways if you're stuck on FX the Royal platform does very well. Ask member bvan about his. Also there are guns better suited to FT that will have all the features needed for the game and a better trigger.

Good luck in your search and I hope you find what you need.

I have a Dreamline FT in the Aeron stock in .177 I had a few issues with it from new. First arrived home and was set to shoot 8.44 JSB and I wanted 10.3. I spoke on the phone and was coached how to change regulator and hammer spring to get the 10.3 under 20 ft lbs. While making adjustments the regulator wigged out and was all over the place and then just lost all air and failed to work. I sent it back to dealer ( on my nickle ) and they replaced the action since they did not have another regulator to install. They also set up for 10.3 JSB under 20 ft lbs. I got it home and worked fine and I put it away for a month. Pulled it out again to shoot and it had leaked all of the air. I Talked with the dealer about finding the leak for a couple days. Finally found it was leaking from the fill port. Sent it back and it was repaired and returned to me. I took it to my first match and had trouble with point of impact shifts after each time I refilled. I had to re-zero each tank refill. I talked with a friend and he advised me to add a barrel clamp and if that didn't help add another barrel clamp and if that didn't work add another barrel clamp. My POI shift was fixed with a second barrel clamp. Knock on wood, it has been hanging in there since. It is accurate enough for FT but not a hole in hole shooter. I think I ended up 5th in state with it shooting a 48 out of 58. Most likely the last FX product I will buy but it is accurate enough for FT once you install 2 barrel clamps. You might have better luck than I did but you WILL NEED BARREL CLAMP(S). You can PM me if you like

Thx

I shot my first field Target match this weekend at Falls Township Rifle and Pistol in Pennsylvania I did very well with the dreamline and an Aztec 5.5x25 scope set on 16 power. My rifle is in 22 caliber.I was shooting jsb 13.4 grain at 790 fps (20 ft/ lb max regulation )...even at this lower speed I had no problems with 55-yard targets. I purchased an ACZ – FT stock that I purchased from Utah airguns, if it ever gets here!!! it's been lost in the mail for 2 weeks Utah airguns failed to tell me that I needed to sign for this package I would have declined that type of shipment had I known as there is normally no one home to receive packages we're Republicans we work). I will be mounting the rifle to that chassis for the next shoot.
