HW/Weihrauch Question for the builders here

I made a suggestion to a guy with a bad barrel ? any way i suggested to buy an LW barrel and replace the HW barrel by removing the HW from the breach block and machine the LW barrel to fit . Now thinking about it , can that be done ? maybe drilling the HW barrel out of the block using a drill to fit the new barrel ?

Im your huckleberry …..

There is no drilling them out. It’s not easy project for the un informed. I’m one of three I know who have done the new star type and one ruined it trying.

The New star nut type are not even do able unless you know what’s going on. It takes super specialized tooling. The old ones are easier but still you have to have done it. The new LW will need rebluing.

what constitutes a bad barrel. Loose bore, bad crown ….????

Dear Lager Larcenist,

Switching the barrel while keeping the breech block (because of availabilities / qualities) is something all of us with bad barrels (notice the plural) have considered. The practicalities of doing this, however, without machine shop equipment & skills, are a steep hill to climb, especially considering marring of surfaces must not happen, while considerable force is utilized, on lengths of soft steel.

Bad barrels aren't drilled out. They are pulled out.

With shipping etc., LW barrel blanks fetch close to what one generally pays for a complete second hand German springer. The blanks still need to be cut, prepped, and the riskier than risky barrel switch performed. It almost makes more sense to buy another gun altogether. Although getting a HW .22 cal that shoots well might take years with this approach.

Ordeal. Lol
