OK
Hello,

A brief history of my PCP experience. I traded for a 25cal maunder that was tuned already for energy. It shoots great and I squirrel hunt with it. Thats it. I have a hand pump and will need to get portable compressor to fill. I don't want to drive to town to get tanks filled.

I am want a high end pcp like the ones listed above but I have needs. LOL

Here they are:
1. very dependable
2. I am not a tinker at all, don't want to mess with tuning all the time. Just want to grab gun and go.
3. Mostly for hunting but some plinking. mostly squirrels
4. Accurate
5. good shot count per fill
6. I'm lefty so needs to be ambi. no mags hitting my cheek or having to move head. Bolt can be on right as long as I don't have to lift my head up to work it.
7. compact like the FX M3 compact
8. quiet or able to add moderator

Sorry for sounding so demanding but if I am going to spend 2 grand or so just on rifle it needs to do these things. Most important thing to me is dependable and doesn't need to be tinkered with all the time. I am hunter

Thanks
Jon

Don't mean to be that guy that chimes in with something completely other than what you asked, buuuuut....

I've been researching my balls off on high end, high power PCP rifles for the past month. I'm personally about to pick up a Panthera 700 as soon as they're in stock.

Based on your criteria, a .30cal EdGun Leshiy 2 seems to perfectly fit the bill based on everything ive been reading and viewing. I'm likely going to pick one up myself for whackin' critters.

I shoot prs 22 so the panthera would be great for that as it was designed for. Aren't the Edguns semiauto? I don't know if I want a semiauto for hunting. I will have to look closely. Thanks for the advice.

That's what im hoping for, something with rimfire performance with out the cost or availability issues plaguing ammo sales lately. Hopefully i can get enough shooting in to one day do it competetively.

The Leshiy isn't semiauto in that the power supply cycles the action; it operates essentially the same as an old Crossman pellet revolver. Even fires through the magazine. Sounds kinda meh but i can't recall coming across anyone complaining about the accuracy of these things. Nothing but accolades.

Just my opinions here. The FXs are mostly not lefty friendly. Some say you can work around it, but I've tried a few and even with smaller mags I don't find it comfortable.

With the Brocock I would assume you are looking at the Ghost. Just do some reading up on the threads. Not necessarily a bad choice, but the power adjust with the balanced valve seems to impact adjustment range unless you start changing out springs. Not my idea of ease of use, but YMMV.

If you are considering a Panthera and the length is not a concern, then I'd put the Brocock Bantam Sniper XR on your short list as well.

The Cricket is a really great airgun. Powerful, very accurate, easy to use. My only thoughts are if you have the slug game in mind it might not be the best of options. The magazines hold the pellets in at their skirts via an o-ring so slugs won't really stay put. Very nice trigger ootb. Easy power adjustment via hammer spring knob at the rear.

Ok thanks
I am looking for compact and not given much thought to slugs. I think for hunting at my distances the pellet would be fine. My main concern is dependability and as Ron said "set it and forget it". Is the Cricket 2 better? or the Argos(spelling). I would like a decent shot count as well.

Of those three, I have experience with FX and Brocock. The only FX I can recommend is the Royale. A friend, who is a lefty, has one and likes it. A left hand Daystate Revere would meet your criteria. If you care for bullpups, the Taipan Veteran is easily convertible to left side lever.
I have never shot a bullpup anything so I don't know if I would to be honest. They look weird and too tall to be honest, but I've been called that too. LOL I will look at the Revere. I am open to any suggestions as long as it meets my criteria .

Thanks again

Man is it hard to spend 2k + on a rifle you don't get to handle until it arrives at your door... Trust me living in a rural area that's exactly what I've done .. research, research research then hope it's all that when it arrives. Sometimes it's worth a bit of a drive to see one in person... If there are any air gun related shoots going on .... Go! Like minded air gunners love to talk air rifles and most in likely will ask if you would like to shoot their rifle... Take the opportunity to do so.. chances are they have another rifle close buy as a backup rig you'll get to shoot also.. another thing sometimes it's worth a drive to a dealer to look first hand...( I've just recently started doing this) actually a gun shop not too far from me started dealing in FX and another brand that I'm not familiar with... But my next purchase isnt going to be a FX... The closest dealer in the rifle I'm interested in is almost 5 hours one way from me... Im going to make the drive to see it in person . . Hopefully shoot it before I purchase... My son-in-law is a lefty and an air gunner .. most all my rifles are not comfortable for him. His favorite is a kral empire xs... Tiny little compact... Not much of a shot count but more than enough for squirrel hunting (or state allows 5 per person a day)

I don't know enough about the panthera but what I've read about it. It states 10-15 shots per fill. So that will get you through one stage and then have to fill it again. Can those 4500psi carbon tanks fill it back up for the next stage and is there enough in it to last 10 stages? I know filling from a tank is much faster than a portable compressor but can 1 tank last the match. Thats not counting your confirming shots and drops before match starts. I just shoot local stuff so it might be different in bigger matches. There are usually 5 or 6 shooters per squad and everyone helps out. We usually have 2 spotters and then a score keeper on the ipad. So I don't know how all that filling will work out cause I know you can't drag a compressor around. It will be interesting because you already carry so much stuff with you.

Great advice!
There are 2 clubs in the state that shoot field target and the closet is about 1 hour away but they are done and will not start back up till March or April. I need to see what dealers here in OK have quality air rifles to touch. I'm with you I hate buying without handling and shooting. I used to shoot alot of traditional archery and it was hard to order a bow that you never shot and wait a year for it and when it comes it was disappointing. Maybe I need to talk to someone like your son-in-law who does it and learn something. The problem is sometimes I love the gun but the stock sucks for us leftys. Makes me wonder if I should just get a HW95 or TX200 springer and just be done with it.

Thanks again

I use to build recurve bows and of course shoot traditional... Hate to get this thread to far off topic 🤣
Now that you brought up springers... Yep I got those too .. been many of squirrel brought home to the table with one .. they are a whole new animal to learn to shoot accurately.. the TX 200 is a great rifle.. I use to own one.. heavy though. I kept my 2 favorite which is a R9 177 ( my first springer squirrel hunting rig) and a RWS 34 22cal. Both have been tuned and shoot wonderful.
You can't beat a good tuned springer .. but practice practice practice to shoot one accurate ( and something tells me shooting traditional archery you know exactly what I mean about hold and practice 🙂)

I'm not familiar with that gun. I will look it up

Thanks

It is absolutely imposible to make a better buy for the price. Those rifles are built like a tank, have a CZ barrel that is the must (yes I say must) accurate in the market with both pellets and slugs, they are so easy to degass, disassemble and reassamble if needed. They come with two magazines perfectly functional, they are comfortable to shoulder, they are comfortable to carry, they are accurate, accurate, accurate and reliable !!!

You may buy more expensive rifles, more complex ones, more beautiful, but not better ones.

Please fans of other rifle makers, do not get angry, you should better ask the makers of your rifles to make better work.

Thats good stuff.
My favorite recurve I have is a zipper built by Bob. Its 30 years old and still stacks them in there. Now back to springers I have had several in my life and only have one now. None of them were what I would call great, Gamo, hatsan, etc. I would get a 22 cal for sure and weather its an underlever or break barrel makes no matter to me. I know they are harder to shoot well and consistently but fun to shoot and no extra cost for a compressor.

I looked at them and they look good. What kind of shot count do they get? I compete with guys in PRS 22lr and it seems all CZ barrels shoot lights out whether its a powder burner or air.

Thanks
