Question on NSA slug sizing

Hey all,

Can anyone give me an opinion on these pics? These are NSA 20.2 on left, FX hybrids on right, both in .22 cal. These were pushed from breech to muzzle through a CZ barrel on my RTI Priest 2. I Also have NSA’s in .2165, .217 and .2175…oddly they all actually measure .2175, what’s up with that? Should I go up to .218? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Purpose manufactured "PELLET" barrels have a greater Minimum / Maximum Land to Groove spec than what is ideal for a Slug .... Simple truth.

Both shown exhibit sufficient land engagement, and while no trace of groove contact present, not an oddity what so ever.

ACCURACY when shot rules the day ... period.

Shoot the size that proves most accurate, don't fret what push threws look like.

@Scotty1 Thanks for posing the question. I’m also interested in feedback from the slug crowd, long distance, and competition shooters.

@Motorhead Isn’t the point of slugging a barrel to give the shooter an idea of which size to start experimenting with especially if you’re into casting your own slugs? From there one can shoot , find a slug that the barrel likes, and maybe do some sizing to improve accuracy and determine the best mold size to purchase. Do I have the wrong idea here?

In my case, I had .2165 and .217 sizes to try. The above photo was the .217 size and I thought I would try the next size up, and ordered the .2175. While waiting for that order, I had the bright idea to check the sizes with a caliper. Now I have 3 different sizes that all measure the same @ .2175. So, the joke is on me, and now I’ll order .218 and hope they don’t measure .2175 again. Fortunately they work very well in my Crown.
