Question on proper CO2 cartridge to use with Benjamin 30/30 Co2 Carbine repeater BB gun

I have an old 1960/70s vintage Benjamin 30/30 CO2 carbine repeater BB gun - my research
says that it was referred to as the HOTSHOT.

Need to know what CO2 cartridges are compatible with this gun.

The reason I ask is because when I attempt to place an 8g cartridge in the screw-in compartment
which comes off the back of the receiver and screw the compartment back onto the receiver, it will
NOT go completely back flush onto the receiver, i.e. there are about 5 to 6 threads left for the
compartment will be fully flush back up onto the back of the receiver like it was before I un-screwed it.

Is this supposed to screw completely back flush or do I need to just attempt to turn it harder to get
it flush (am just using normal hand pressure) or would doing so possibly strip the threads on the holder
compartment and/or the receiver ? OR, is it just normal for it not to go back completely flush onto the
back end of the receiver like it sits when there is NO cartridge installed in it ? Also, is it possible that
the 8g cartridges that I purchased recently are not necessarily compatible with the OLD, OLD BB gun,
i.e. could the dimensions of these cartridges have changed from back in the 1960/70s.

Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks.

I am not really familiar with your specific Benji, but I don't think there was any change in the 1960s as to the size and shape of the 8 gram carts. I have used a number of different makes of those carts, and no matter the maker, they all seem to fit in my various guns that take that size. Check to see if there is an obstruction and also see if the piercing point is intact. When you close the cap, can you hear the cart being punctured? I might suggest that, provided you have inserted the cart into the rifle in the correct orientation, you continue to tighten the cap until you can. Hand tightened is all you need; if you take a set of pliers to it you will undoubtedly break something.
Let us know how you make out.

I purchased a Benjamin 3030 on Ebay which had a "piercing" problem. The piercing point was not reaching the CO2 cartridge. Apparently, the previous owner had attempted to force the back of the valve body inward to resolve this (and ended up cracking it) but without success. I replaced the piercing point with the tip of a stainless-steel finishing nail. This was successful. Unfortunately, it developed other problems which I hope someday to resolve.
