Questions for FX Impact owners

I just received a Steyr EVO 10 pistol and a FX Impact .25 and .30. The Steyr was everything I expected - a piece of mechanical art that is laser accurate, has a comprehensive manual, and for each adjustment, they included tools for the adjustment. They even included spare seals and a seal tool (pictured below).

Comparatively, the Impact came with a small manual (picture brochure with 9 pages of actual documentation) that has as many warnings as how I could void my warranty as useful suggestions. Here are my questions:

The barrels don't appear to be marked anywhere as to their caliber?
The probes aren't marked either?
The magazines aren't marked either?

I had to get out a caliper and do measurements to decide what was .25 and .30. Do they expect us to measure stuff all the time or use a sharpie to mark the caliber?

The FX manual states I need a 1.5mm allen to change the probe, but that isn't included either?

Is this just mine or is this normal for FX Impact?

Correct, nothing is marked. Check out Tominco's Impact vid #5 for some tips on marking.
The .22 mags are silver vs. the 25 and 30 are both black. I ended up using blue painters tape on the mags. I made sure to put it in areas that won't effect their function or them sliding in and out of the rifle. I left the probes alone but have thought about using a sharpie on them. Michael engraved his probes. I marked my barrels with a sharpie. I find the barrels to be the hardest to distinguish so I marked some small pieces of painters tape and stick that over the muzzle.

Why in the world couldn't they have etched the equipment with caliber on a gun this expensive when it's meant to have swappable equipment?

I've also now gone through two sets of rings swapping front with rear and rotating them 180 over the rail and can't get to hit close to vertical center even with the scope maxed out on the elevation knob. At 20 yards it's hitting 2 1/8 inch low, at 30 yards 2 1/2 inch low and at 40 yards 3 1/4 inch low. I know it's not the scope (Nikko Diamond Sterling 10-50x60) as it's been on my field target rifles with no issues.

Has anyone else found that this gun can't use regular rings?

I can't believe I'm about to start creating shims out of aluminum foil for the rear scope mount to fix this...

You can not compare FX with the high end German company Steyr!
The fame of FX is better than their products, sounds hard but is so.

My FX Wildcat has barrel problems, the new barrel also...

My new FX Impact has also barrel problems...

I know a lot more errors in FX products, by Steyr nothing!

"sharroff"Has anyone else found that the Atlas bipod with the quick release does not quick release from their Impact? Mine is releasable (and flopping around loose on the mound) or I adjust the screw to tighten make it firmer and then can't release it.

Others?

Adjust the screw, not too much though, and it should still release. Had to do the same adjustment with mine.

As for shooting low at 20 yards, is this the case with both .25 and .30 or only one? What FPS? If it is just on one cal and fps is above 800+, then you may have clipping issues.

KenSkyLight,

My AZ tuned Steyr LG100 and the new Steyr EVO 10 are my present favorite target rifle and pistol. The Airwolf MCT get favorite hunter.

Verve,

I have now gone through a third set of rings, this time Burris XTreme X-High Tacticals ($75 rings) off an AR-15 that shoots perfectly. Same results.

I have tried power 1 to Max with fps north of 870 at power 4 to MAX. Same results.

I have now shot both the 25 barrel and the 30 barrel with the FX extendable shrouds and I've remove the shroud from the 25 and put on the Huggett. Same results.

I tried with the shrouds off (really bad idea in a neighborhood). Same results.

The bottom line is the barrel alignment and scope mount are not properly in line for fixed height rings. I would need a set of adjustable rings to get this to shoot within the limits of a $1500 scope.

I think I'm going to build up the rear scope mount with aluminum foil shims tomorrow just to get it on target at the midrange of the scope's elevation turret and see what kind of groups I can get.
