N/A Quietest Airgun

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for something very quiet in .22 caliber to shoot raccoons in my backyard. I don't want my neighbors to hear it. I have no set budget. I currently have a few leshiy 2's and a steyr x pro but I was wondering if there is something even quieter? I've heard the marauder in .22 is very quiet - is this with or without suppressor? Thanks so much!

A longer barrel properly tuned to reduce excess waster air and a moderator is your best bet. Goes for any platform. Add a shrouded barrel to the aforementioned and it will be even quieter.

Also, noise is usually loud to the shooter, but if you hear it from 15 feet away most stuff sounds very quiet

My cricket Tac Ii 60 25 cal 60FPE is loud at the shooters ear because of the valve strike noise, but with a DonnyFL tatsu it’s silent a few steps away

why not add a suppressor on your Leshiy ? I have a Leshiy with a suppressor on and it is very quiet. Any tuning suggestions to lower the noise? The shots are only 20-30 yards max.
I do have suppressors on the Leshiy 2's but still hear a good little pop when I shoot. Any way to reduce it more? I typically shoot the .25 cal

a proper moderator or very good shroud should make your guns quiet... also you can turn down the amount of air your using... for close in shots you do not need a lot of power... just accuracy.

To the OP's original question - yes, the .22 Marauder is a very quiet gun, especially when tuned well to not waste air. And it can be even more quiet with an additional moderator mounted via an adaptor that replaces the end cap, although it gets long at that point (a reflexed moderator helps with that.

I have several Marauder's, one of which is .22 tuned to about 30 FPE with a very efficient tune (with an SSG, and a PEEK striker) that also has an Airstream reflexed moderator on it that came off a Daystate (the shroud diameters are the same). I'd put that gun up against any other of similar power for quietness - it almost can't be heard at 30 feet away over normal outdoor background noise.

That said, there is still the matter of the sound of the impact. That will still be there and there is not much you can do about it . . .

I laso own a Leshiy2 and the pop you hear is due to the mechanism. I don't know how far your neighbours are but the gun is quiet for anyone standing farther that a couple of meters. Did you listen to the sound while someone else shoots? If there's a house or a fence between you then they won't hear or be bothered with the sound. 20m away you mostly just hear the pellet hitting stuff.

Are you trying to justify another gun or just quiet an existing rifle? If using an existing rifle, moderate it. My personal preference are STO moderators. If trying to go with a new rifle I agree with dnovo get a Huben. Huben's have a shroud, moderator system that is quite effective right out the box. If that's still to loud throw a STO Falix on it and you'll be approaching the proverbial mouse fart quiet. Velocity is the key, fast louder, slow will be quieter.

Yes the design of an LDC or shroud internals will swing the noise factor but the bottom line is that noise is more ralated to power and barrel lenght,...and of course how efficient the tune is about waisting air.

Marauder .22 essentially is quiet because it's relatively low power in todays trends and has a long barrel

Second the motion on STO. Good quality, very effectIve. Looking for something short to keep the length down on my Airmaks Katran S/C I picked up a blemished Pugio off their sale page. Very happy with it (and couldn’t find any blem when I got it) and surpisingly quiet given its dimensions. Picked up the longer version for another gun. Equally pleased. David

What have you done already to your Leshiy 2 to make it quieter? Is it a 250mm or 350mm or ? The original shroud/moderator is not real effective. Just adding a STO insert to the original shroud helps quite a bit. The longer STO insert using a 350 shroud with a 250mm barrel works a bit better. If you need even less noise you can add a Striplin adapter to the end of the original shroud and screw on an additional moderator. There is a lot you can do to make the L2 quieter than original but you will always get some noise out of air blowing out from the breach.
