R9 cocking shoe galling

Hey guys hope alls well. My R9 has started galling on the inside of the compression tube where the shoe is making contact. The gun is early 2000s and has a macarri spring, spring guide and tophat. I’ve had the gun apart multiple times and have never had an issue. I’ve sanded to 600 grit on the cocking shoe, and on the tube where the shoe makes contact hoping it had developed a burr.
I feel like I’m not going about it right. I haven’t made the problem worse, but my efforts haven’t helped in the slightest. Sorry for the photo quality. Any help is much appreciated.

Beau

Hey Moodyblues,
I think Ron has given you very good advice on how to deal with your receiver slot gouging issue.

1) As long as there was no damage to compression surfaces I wouldn't worry about it.
2) Use a 1" Oak dowel or aluminum rod (>$$) and tape 220 grit carborundum paper to start, then 320 to 500 grit. You should be able to focus the sanding to the area in question. Don't sand in the compression chamber !!!
3) When done, use some clear tar or thick lube in this area - it will smooth out and remove the snagging sensation when cocking.

Thanks Kirk, been getting good advice from you for a while. The slight damage is just under the slot and I kept my sandpaper well clear of the compression area. Ron’s technique worked plenty good. I fine tuned the size of my pvc pipe with electrical tape under my sand paper, worked good for me. Would a ball hone not be a good tool for this job? Seems perfect to me, but I’ve never used one so that doesn’t matter much.

I thought the new shoe fixed it but I don’t believe it has. It took about 30 shots and now it’s starting to gall again. I’m hoping a new piston will fix it, that’s the only thing left that hasn’t been changed. I think it was Ron who mentioned the piston could be bulged. It makes sense to me that it would cause the shoe to push into the underside of the compression tube. Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!
