R9 Velocities in .22

Hi All,

Just my second post here. So, I've got a Beeman R9 in .22 that has a Vortek kit in it with maybe 1500 shots since the installation. My average speed with H&N FTT's (14.66gr.) is exactly 700 fps. My velocity spread (standard deviation) is only like 3 fps, which is way lower than my stock R7 and R10, so I'm happy with that at least.

I was really expecting or hoping for more, like maybe 730 to 740. Was I being too optimistic? Really happy with the spread and the accuracy but want to go faster! lol

Regards,

These are my HW95L crono numbers after an ARH kit with an ARH seal install.

I just installed a Vortek seal with the ARH top hat, spring & guide along with a complete cleaning, polishing and relube with GPL-205 and will post the numbers tomorrow. My groups seem to be back to normal and cocking/shooting are smooth.

Nice sunny morning and these are the chrono results using the Vortek seal.

Expirement with different pellets. Not all brands of pellets of the same weight will shoot at the same velocity. Head size, skirt diameter, etc: can produce different results. My RWS 34 in .22cal will only produce 680-690 fps with 14.66 gr JSB's. If I switch to 14.5 gr RWS Superdomes I'm at 740 fps. The rifle will shoot accurately with the 14.5 gr Sig Venom domes @14.5 gr and at higher barometric pressures I hit 750 fps with the Venom's.

R9 .177 = unknown velocity, but slower at reactive targets than my HW95 .177 at 798 fps using Kaiser 7.xx gr Sovereigns.

R1 or HW80 will shoot the .177 too fast in too tight a chamber; from .20 to .25 the HW80 and HW95 are pretty much the best in lasting and performing shot to shot 100 rounds to 100 rounds.

My own R9 .177 is accurate but runs slower in velocity than my HW95 .177, HW98 .177.

Beeman's model is supposed to be smoother in operation;

the HW model will take time to smooth but shoots to point of aim from the time it comes out of the box to be "smoothed in" by repeated fire.

R9, HW95, HW98 have the same power plant. I have tuned all 3 and as always there are slight variations with each gun, but the same power plant in all 3.

Right but my own R9 emblazoned "R9" in Gold is the lowest velocity along with my own HW97K-T .20 (in that caliber).

Beeman sacrifices power or velocity for smoothness; HW gives you the original product for YOU to break in yourself with extremely satisfying results. Beeman stopped the R1 and next they (Air Venturi) will stop the R9.

Go to the original HW to get the high end in power and any "roughness" you encounter will smooth out better than any Beeman Branded rifle.

Beeman GAVE up his right to have HIS name emblazoned Gold in the Gold Triggered HWs that are originally HW80s and HW95s and HW98s.

Beeman today is to me a lost title to anyone (like Air V.) who sells them under "Beeman."

After Huntington Beach Beeman became a bought out company; and those investing in Beeman are just investing in HWs.

The HWs made today are superior to any old or new Beeman. HW has modernized and the name Beeman means nothing to anyone but those in historical artifacts.

That is why I believe in HW and that is why I believe in the HW98 over any Beeman Springer ever made.

Kindly said I hope!

What? You do realize that all of Beeman's gun's back in the day Weihrauch or Theoben! They still sell the R9 and the R7, which are HW95 and HW30. I've have owned several R1's and R9's and they are exactly the same at HW80's and HW95's. I have tuned over 30 of them and they are all the same internally. Did you ever see Maccari making a tune kit for an R1 and a different one for the HW80? Buy a chronograph.

Please explain how an HW will smooth out better than a Beeman, when they are the exact same model gun. For example, a current HW95 vs a current R9?

We would love to know.

Without telling us about your Diana 54..

As others have pointed out there is no difference between the Beeman guns and their manufacturer counterparts. Weirauch, Webley, FWB, Diana, and others made arrangements with Beeman to import and sell under their brand. In some cases, external changes are made to sights, stocks, etc. The internals and barrels are identical. As for the sell-out, Beeman has been split into 2 groups, one that is mainly lower quality and one that still sells the HW German-made rifles. I happen to love the older Huntington Beach and earlier stamped Beemans. I live in CA and was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time in the Santa Rosa store and museum. Much of that time was spent with the good Dr. Beeman himself. The first adult air rifle I purchased was a left-handed HW77 that Dr. Beeman handed directly to me in the late '80s. I really enjoyed those visits and I find a certain romance in the guns from that period. I poured over those glossy Beeman catalogs till the pages were thin. Wish I still had them.

Just 2 Cents.
