This raccoon has been a complete terror! It has pulled away my soffit and was making a home in my crawl space. My wife saw this guy peeking his head out while she was doing some yard work. So not wanting to take a chance on wounding it and dying in my ceiling, he got a pass that time.
The next few nights I set up some cat food in a shooting lane I ranged at exactly 25 meters, which is my Bullboss primary zero. Out he came around 3 A.M. and I took my shot, but even though I thought I had a great headshot, my slightly elevated position (6 degrees) had me off. He flopped around, then got up and limped off! I ran around the house just in time to see him crawl back into my crawl space!
After doing another sight in, I was more than ready. The only decision to make was the ammo to use: H&N Hornets or H&N Grizzlies. That coon was massive, so I opted for the Grizzly.
A few nights later, the raccoon decided to try his luck again. And this time his luck ran out! One well placed .25 cal Grizzly to the head, and three more to the body as it did it's final dance, as I wasn't taking any chances of a repeat walk off like last time.
I estimate the coon weighed about 25-30 pounds, and I put my eyeglasses next to it for reference. I didn't keep the hide, as this was a nuisance kill and raccoons are out of season. I also quickly disposed of it as I live in an urban area, as there are ordinances against killing anything with anything, regardless of season or your hunting license!
I made a discovery when disposing it, and that was he was a she! A week has passed and now I have raccoon young in my crawl space!
I either have to try and collect them and either relocate them or give them the dirt nap. What should I do?
