Evanix RainStorm 1 Project is a go!

I got a nice RS1 .22 from a good friend with a plan in mind.
Chop it down, mount it in a new stock, and have a compact shooter.
Now I didn't just come up with this idea. I 'borrowed' the idea from another friend.
See, Manny (Nomadic Pirate 66) did one in .30 and I bought it from him. Later We traded and he got it back.
I've been searching for a shorter tube and didn't want to pay the high price for the Evanix tubes that would work.
At around $160 bucks for the air tubes I just figured the project was dead. Until I got a message!
Manny found a short tube and is sending it to me! Talk about a great friendship from just the internet!
Just when I was giving up on the project He comes through. I'm both stunned and SO grateful for Friends like Him.
I'll post more about the build when parts arrive.

The Stock for this build is on the way. It's the same stock Manny used and is for a Ruger 10/22

There will be some cutting and fitting work to do but that's the whole reason to do this build.
It will be somewhat like Manny's version.

Those EVANIX RS1 are accurate!
This one is no exception! All the Evanix guns I've had were great shooters.
3 or 4 of them I grabbed from Manny. Still have 2 from him.

Manny told me the Air Tube he is sending is from the .30 Carbine I had from him for awhile.
That's almost like my favorite Gun coming back! I am sooo STOKED!!!

The 10/22 stock arrived today!
I have an old Friend coming to help me with some stuff on my lathe so it will be a day or so before I start the stock work.
My Friend has over 30 years experience with lathes so I called him for some teachings I need.
I can kind of set the RS1 into the stock but need that short tube to get my lengths for cutting the stock back and chopping the barrel.
My Friend is going to teach me how to thread the cut barrel for the Silencer.

@Privateer Damn, now this is interesting!! That's a nice looking stock. What type of tools does this sort off conversion require?
I believe Manny used hand tools when he did his stock. For machining the area where the Air Tube fits, I have a different way.
I use a shaft just a bit smaller then the size of the Air Tube, wrapped with sand paper, and then chuck it in my lathe. Then carefully work it to fit.
So it's basically a spinning sander. I make a sort of jig for the stock and that holds the stock level as I slowly work to the finish fit.
I've done a few stocks this way.
Other cuts will use a dremel mostly.

I'll probably do some test welds on spare parts with a plastic welder also. If it works? There's areas I may need to fill.

So I dug out an old AT-44 short Air Tube to use as my sanding bar for the lathe.
It's a few thousands smaller in diameter then the Evanix Air Tubes. Once a few wraps of sand paper is attached, should be close enough for the job.

I did take the Grip off to see what would need to be done to mount the Royal Arms Grips I like so much.
Lots of cutting of both the Stock and Grip would need done. I'll save that until after the RS1 is mounted into the stock.
That's were welding might be needed along with some mill work. I don't have a Mill but I do have a Drill Press.
Drill Press + Mill bits = Ghetto milling machine!

Or I might make a couple molds and pour a new Grip.

Took the Air Tube off the RS1 today so I could pull and reset the Huma Regulator.
I did a reset awhile back and it was about 135 PSI according to the gauge on the gun.
I'll use the Huma regulator tester to get a perfect 125 PSI setting this time around.
It is a .22 so that should be fine as a starting point. I'm not after super power as it's to be a short range gun.
Starlings mostly and the occasional Chip Monks near my shed.
I never had an Evanix that shot Slugs really great, due to the choke, so really excited to test this barrel once chopped down.
The shorter Air Tube should show up by Tuesday or so USPS tracking says.
Thanks again Brother Manny!

Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery.

The Mini-Carbine RS2 .30 Manny built, and I had for awhile, is one of the Guns I regret trading back to him.
Now I'm really happy with the Max Air .25 I got in trade but always missed that .30! So getting this RS1 at a killer price?
I KNEW I had to copy the original! It has a cracked stock so no reason NOT to. Took awhile to track down some magazines for it.
But I got 2 at a crazy low price. Manny sent me, Free of charge, the short Air Tube from that .30. So that makes this an even more special build to me.
The Air Tube arrived in the mail today so all the parts are now here and I can start the work fitting the stock and cutting the barrel down.
Mine will be a bit different from Manny's as I won't be using a shroud. I'll thread the end of the barrel for the Rocker1 silencer I have.
The silencer will be modified a bit from what He gave me but that's minor work. Mostly a finish polish then a wrap or paint.

The shorter Air Tube on it with the mock up barrel/silencer kind of in place. That will give me about a 10 1/2 inch barrel.
That should be fine for the intended range for a .22. There will be nearly 1 inch extending inside the silencer.

The Rocker1 silencer fits the stock barrel band fine and leaves enough room that a chopped down shroud will fit in and stay fine.

I don't know how Manny handled the fit near the Air Gauge block but I decided I'll narrow that block a bit then take some off the inside of the stock. That block is pretty beefy! A bit wider then the Air Tube itself. Probably scare the Hell outta some people that I'd chop up a RainStorm Gen 1 this way.

I'm a bit Anal about some things and seeing I want a build that stands up to the People I learned from and respect?
I have to go the extra mile on something. My friend sent me a silencer that works GREAT on the RS 1.
But it needs that extra mile to be perfect! I'll turn the base that threads on the barrel a bit so the shroud fits over it.
Then it will get a good sanding and then a nice paint job since it's just rough turned, bare aluminium right now.
I will cut a groove for an o-ring as I want a tight fit incase I find I need to do a vent hole.
