It rained for the first time in months. The wind blew. I had my heart set on shooting the "Ol' 97" today but decided to do a couple projects in the shop with it instead.

I made a new little cleaning block that doubles as a breech seal saver.

A safety block for cleaning. You can flip it around for breech seal replacement.

And to prop the comp tube open a bit in storage...

I also made a little grip shoe for it. It's really narrow in the grip and It was annoying. I was always up to my second knuckle in the trigger guard. Now the trigger is under my finger when the gun is in my hand...

Nice McGyvering! Breech bear trap safety is something that I remember each time I was loading my RWS 48....that scared me each and every shot! 👍

I hear you! I'm mindful every time I cock that gun. If the trigger is set too light it barely latches. And the trigger adjustment screw will move shooting it. I've sorted all that out but I am still super careful loading it.

When you are cleaning those guns you either cock it or block it. I realized early on to stick something in there and not do it fully cocked.

I replaced the cocking linkage and pins on this gun. Same deal. You have to get some slack in the linkage to work on it. So the block is handy.

Ive used all kinds of stuff in there. I had a PVC pipe fitting that worked good. But a little wood plug contoured to make things easier is sweet. And I figured it could replace the wine cork I was using under the cocking lever while I was at it.
