Rapid Air Weapons TM1000 - Ring and Pellet Choice

Hey All

After some discussion with a member of this forum I decided to purchase a Rapid Air Weapons TM1000 Thumbhole. It shipped today and will arrive in 10 days.

I plan on pairing it with a Nightforce SHV 5-20x56 Scope as I have always been a big fan of Nightforce scopes and the SHV will easily parallax down to 15 yards. (They advertise 25 yard minimum but I have a few SHV's and the SHV lineup has no problems with 15 yard targets.)

While I own quite a few airguns in 22, 25 and 30 cal, this is my first high-end 177 cal gun. I usually prefer JSB, AirArms (made by JSB), and Daystate pellets. That being said, would love to hear any options RAW owners may like.

Given the amazing expertise that exists on this forum, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on:

1. What 30mm Dovetail rings I should use?; and

2. What pellets I should purchase to experiment with?

PS: Here is a pic of the gun sent to me by the dealer. I'll post a detailed review once received.

Got one of these myself with the poly barrel. Just gorgeous and dead accurate. My rifle likes the JSB monsters best. Shooting them at around 790-800fps. My barrel likes the 4.55 heads best, but every barrel will be different. Did you get the regular LW or the Poly barrrel? Not sure about rings. I've got Sportsmatch on mine and they seem fine. Congratulations on your new rifle. You're going to love it!

Hi

I went with the regular LW barrel as it was all that was available and definitely what I am more comfortable with. (Relatively new to airguns but from the powder burning world I know LW barrels fairly well.) I can't wait to try it out and see if the accuracy matches my FX or Daystate Rifles.

One question since you own one, the receiver and barrel look kinda white in the picture I received. From everywhere I've read, they are anodized aluminum. Is your cylinder/receiver white? I'm thinking the picture I've received is just a little washed out.

the air cylendrs are ti now. they arnt aluminium any more.

I have both poly and lw barrels and have done weeks of testing and thousdands of pellets.and I have kept all the targets and I do all my testing at 25 m 50 yards and 100 and 125 and 150 yards so far.

my gun likes different pellets and the same pellets but with different lot numbers,
yes even the lot numbers make a hugh difference..
I get bench rest accuracy at different ranges. becase a pellet is accurate at 100 dosent mean it will be the best at shorter ranges and yes u read that right and vise versa.

the poly barrel general likes pellets over 900 fps and the lw like to stay below 900 fps.
but u will have to test to find what you gun likes.

and oh yes order a poly barrel from raw. with the thimble to get the most out of your gun.. u will love the poly barrel.
mine have proven to be even more accurate than the lw barrel.

with my raw 177 I can hit the head of a match ever time.. yes every time at 25 meters .

you will be impressed. and u can even order a cut .22 custom barrel for your raw as well.

you will be impressed. im in nf too btw.

NL,
you can try looking at RAW's current TM1000 page, pics are always hard eh? Martin used to take all pictures against a white board ( never has there been a mocked up pic) and recently seems to have started adding some outdoor contrast pictures just for us.
Certainly IS " coated" and "I" might indeed say "White" on color myself but.... Now you know you cant see your barrel as it is covered with a titanium shroud right?

If you've not seen this pic She is the CNC operator who worked making your rig and owns/shoots ole #1 ( you will not have a serial number). Preetty sure Dottie shoots 8.4JSB ??

I didnt look at your profile/posts to see your experience level but a solid choice that should satisfy you. Nice scope too, I've only looked through those.

I watched the video online about RAW and their employees. Very interesting stuff! Nice to see they shoot what they sell!

If you shoot benchrest in the heavy varmint class, 13 gr pellets can't exceed 800 fps. That's what i shoot with the poly barrel. I've shot a 748-53X with this. Pellet quality is the determining factor.
