Western Airguns Rattler 357 and 45

Out of curiosity..What is the minimum FPE everyone is comfortable with when going after say white tail or big boar (175lbs+)?I feel like 300-350 will get the job done with good shot placement. Is there really a need for 600-800fpe or is it just more humane and assuring?Heck Keith Warren was taking out big bucks with his 220fpe dragon claw no problem 10 years ago! Going on my first hog hunt soon, was just curious what everyone’s thought were.
I'm not a hunter but I've seen cheplicki's videos... he took a deer with a 357 HP SS Max and an 81 grain pellet. Likely less than 150fpe.

45 cal Texan with another grand in it would be around 900 fpe and long range would be over 600 yards 2400 bucks . Hell my 308 Texan with a power valve is more pcp than the 357 rattler.
My stock .510 Tx2 34 inch barrel will shoot 650 slugs up to 820 fps alot.of foot pounds its taller than me and probably weighs 14lbs field ready. It's a special use tool...The design of a the rattler and huben lend themselves to accuracy from their design.. I love my Airforce, but they are like shooting a smoke pole.lol😀

I couldn't agree more, 308 Texan, Big 9.

@Airgun561 I’m comfortable sticking to the state regulations. In Texas that’s a 215 FPE minimum.

Oh you're right, but I wonder if that will come standard or if they just put it on that one. You'd think standard with the amount of air 12 shots of 45 will need right?
Yeah i think they had the 700cc’s already for the production of the .45 and decided to offer it as an upgrade for the .357 in the meantime.you’ll notice they actually had the 700’s standard on the .357 for the second to last round of production then went back to the 580cc on the current run and simultaneously announced the .45 cal.I just bought the .357 and it seems like the goal is to get a full mag per tank on higher power .357 or .45..so yeah i would agree with your hypothesis

I've considered getting the 357 myself. If the 580 gives enough air for 15 high power shots, how many more do you get with 700?

Not many its just an extra 120cc.My thought on that was there was no advantage to the 700cc on the .357 because you have to break and reload anyway so just top off at the same time and then you are ready for another full mag.I guess if you were using lower power with light pellets then it might pay off getting 2 full mags or so.I want to hunt hogs with this thing so i want to practice and tune at the power and ammo i will be using for that so i know exactly what to expect with holdovers etc

@Airgun561 This looks like the airgun to do it. After that first shot when they start to scatter, you will have the ability to keep putting them down. I'd be interested in using it for coyote as well.

Yeah i agree with you airgun561, if you have to reload anyway and it isnt enough extra air for a full mag, whats the point? I have a similar philosophy with my hubens.

Looks like edgun west has listed some specs. Seems my guess of power was pretty close. Looks like 700cc is standard.
