RAW 1000Hx with or without shroud

I am considering buying a RAW HM1000x in 22 Cal. They offer No Shroud and with a factory shroud that looks like it serves as a moderator. Not much difference in price.

First image, NO Shroud - Sure looks like it has a shroud on it with an end cap....Assuming threads underneath that cap for a moderator.
2nd image WITH Shroud - By shroud are they meaning a moderator / air stripper or what?

I have looked around and can't really find the exact differences between the two options and the positive / negative aspects of each. If someone could chime in with some clarification I would appreciate it. The more I search the less clear it is becoming.

If you order directly from Martin, he can install a threaded adapter for the muzzle that will allow you to use the moderator of your choice. If you are dealing with the folks in Texas, I'm not sure how the orders flow from there, but I think Martin is still doing all the assembly. His shop is Airguns-USA, where you can find his contact information.

Top pic is not a shroud, it is a carbon fiber barrel sleeve with a threaded adaptor on the end.
The adaptor is presumably 1/2-20 to allow you to use the moderator of your choice. Instead of the RAW unit.

They are likely referring to the big can as a shroud.

I think you are correct. It gets confusing with airguns. I often see the word shroud and sleeve used interchangeably for the tube that goes over the actual barrel which some call a "liner". I have never seen a moderator called a shroud other than here. I did read somewhere that the "no shroud" option on the RAW HM1000x does have a threaded section under the end cap, with a carbon fiber shroud/sleeve covering the barrel / liner.

Is that factory moderator decent? It is $100 more than the one without the shroud. I definitely want a threaded muzzle on the barrel shroud / sleeve, so I would not want to get the factory "shroud" model if it is not threaded, such as a slip on moderator. I guess I can call the guys who make them, but I can't make phone calls while I am working.

Thanks elh0102. I will look into contacting him.

I have the model with the big can on it. It's two piece - the front section has foam pieces and acts like moderator - still loud. The barrel muzzle is back inside the large empty second piece. It acts like an air stripper. This assembly works very well to keep pellet tamed down as it exits the muzzle of barrel. I have no idea if the model with plain end works as well.

I’d be leary if the seller is offering you both (and) saying both will work Interchangeably. The 1/2-20 adapter is larger in diameter than the barrel and CF sleeve. The large car muffler will not slide over the top of the adapter as it’s end piece is the same diameter as the barrel itself without the CF sleeve. They may be throwing in the car muffler in the deal but it will not fit once the adapter has been epoxied to the barrel so it is pretty much a boat anchor.

Those are just stock images off the web showing the two current model options.

I'd like to see what the one with the mod looks like without it on. If the carbon liner doesnt extend to the muzzle or if the barrel isnt threaded, I'd get the one without.
The factory installed carbon fiber sleeve ends at the rear edge of the factory RAW moderator and the barrel end is NOT threaded. The RAW can basically butts up to the sleeve and is glued on.
